Wring out excess water.
Leave in a good spot to dry (on edge or on a rack).
Extra credit: leave a bit of soap residue in the sponge.

They can last for months if done correctly or only days if mishandled.

@DirtyTesLa You should pay insurance for things you can't afford to go wrong. No insurance or high deductible for things you can afford. Insure your house or for serious illness. Life insurance if your spouse wouldn't be financially ok if you died.
