Apple snails often act as intermediate hosts for rat lungworms. If ingested, the worms can migrate to the brain and central nervous system, causing eosinophilic meningitis.

Liver Flukes and Tapeworms: These snails can carry various parasitic worms (such as Echinostoma), which can infect your gastrointestinal tract and cause severe internal distress.

To prepare them safely, you should

1. Purge the snails by keeping them in a well-ventilated container without food for 1-2 days to empty their intestines.

2. Scrub the shells and remove the intestines/organs before cooking.

3. Boil or cook the meat for several minutes at high temperatures to kill all parasites.

🚨 Most people haven't realized it, but without proper legal oversight, AI glasses might already be supporting privacy harm and CRIMINAL activity:

Last year, @AlexanderNL, a Dutch journalist, went to Amsterdam's financial district using AI glasses.

After seconds-long interactions with random people on the street, the facial recognition technology powering his glasses could identify the person using publicly available data from the internet.

His goal was to demonstrate how invasive facial recognition technology has become, especially since anyone can wear a device that enables real-time identification.

Many people forget, but besides the more 'hyped' use cases, real-time identification can also be used to support criminal activity.

For example, someone may use these types of AI glasses to identify the victim after a few seconds of small talk, then pretend to be an old acquaintance to steal or commit a violent crime.

Most smart glasses have a small green light at the upper corner to signal that the camera is on, but my guess is that the majority of people will not notice it (that's what we see in the video, too).

Also, more recently, I have seen smart glasses WITHOUT the green light (which would likely be illegal in some countries and U.S. states).

The video is from November 2024, but has been circulating again one year later.

I would say that from legal and regulatory perspectives, one year later, the problem remains the same, and little to nothing has been done to protect people from AI-led privacy invasion on the streets (which might also facilitate other types of harm and violent crime).

I would also say that, in general, we are WORSE in December 2025 than we were in November 2024. Why?

There is a global deregulatory trend in AI (pushed by the U.S.), and, through the Digital Omnibus, the EU is proposing changes to the GDPR and the EU AI Act that are detrimental to the protection of fundamental rights, including, of course, privacy.

Despite all the odds... I'm cautiously optimistic that the pendulum will swing in the opposite direction in 2026, as deregulated AI clearly benefits no one (except tech billionaires).

My friend took himself to the hospital due to excruciating abdominal pain. He was admitted at the emergency ward. After stabilisation and some tests, abdominal CT scan was ordered. The hospital, owned by a top govt agency, couldn’t perform the scan because the equipment for that had broken down for years. So, he was referred to National Hospital as an emergency. We got there and National Hospital said the scan could only be done in at least a month’s time because there were others on queue.

So, we went to a private health facility and, luckily, they had the machine and price was around 100k. We paid, preparation done and scan was scheduled for 48 hours later. On the day of the scan, on Sunday, we were told the machine had broken down and the maintenance guys didn’t work on weekends. The maintenance people would come the next day, Monday, to see what the problem was, and if a part was to be replaced, it would have to be ordered from Germany and would take a while.

Confused and worried, we frantically searched for another place. My friend was already very hungry, having not eaten since the previous night as part of his preparation for the scan. Also, he had already drunk the ‘water’ given as part of the pre-scan process. Luckily, we got another facility that had a functioning equipment, but it cost my friend N230k+ for the scan alone, without the kidney function test.

In the midst of all these, the only thing I could think of was, “this is how people die needlessly and avoidably in this country”.

When the hospital in Ibadan didn't have electricity for 100 days.

A certain family had to bring their generator to Power the ward as their baby was on Oxygen support or what do you people call it.

The baby was not getting any better, so they flew the child out of the country.

In that same ward, the cousin of this family was also admitted and died shortly because there was no electricity. The Family powering the ward was personally unavailable.

People don't really know how terrible poverty is.

They think it's just a lack of money.
Meanwhile, it's lack of money, access, help, choice, mentorship, and so much more.

It's the absence of someone to guide you through doors you didn't even know existed.

It's watching opportunities pass by not because you're lazy, but because you never even heard they were calling.

It's waking up with talent in your bones, fire in your chest, but nowhere to pour it into.

It's being brilliant, but stuck, because brilliance alone can't buy data, can't pay transport, can't afford connections.

Poverty blocks travel. It blocks exposure. It blocks the kind of education that teaches you how to dream and reach.

It blocks safety, because when you're poor, even sickness becomes a luxury you can't afford to have.

It blocks creativity. Not because the ideas aren't there, but because survival takes up all the mental space.

It blocks confidence. When all you've ever known is lack, it rewires your self-worth.

It blocks voice. Because society listens differently to someone with empty pockets.

It blocks experimentation, because you can't afford to fail when failure means hunger, prison or even death.

It blocks rest. It steals sleep. It drains peace.

It blocks time, as everything takes longer when you have to figure it all out alone, from scratch, with no safety net.

It blocks joy. Not all of it, but the kind that lasts.

It blocks visibility. You can be exceptional and invisible at the same time if you're poor.

It blocks love. Real, safe, sustained love.
It blocks even the belief that things could ever be different.

But here's what makes it more tragic... Poverty is not just financial. It becomes mental. Emotional. Generational.
It passes down like an unwanted inheritance. A chain of silence, of limits, of "manage it like that,"
... of "this is how it's always been."

Gradually, it stops being just a condition. It becomes an environment. A culture. A cage.

So if you've escaped poverty, I congratulate you. What you have accomplished is in the list of top three most difficult things in the world. Please, don't just count your blessings, reach back, open doors and help some out too. Just be sure that you've escaped totally. You can pull people out of the well if you've made it outside the well. Doing it inside the well can make you fall back to the bottom.

If you're still in it, hold on. You're not crazy. You're not broken. The system is.

And if you're in a position to do something, do something. Not everyone needs a miracle. Sometimes, people just need a ride to the interview.

A connection. A kind word. A break.

What you feel is a negligible help might just be what they need to begin to break the chain.

This life is funny. It is good to put privilege into context.

Some of you have never entered Danfo before because your parents' driver drive you around, while others have to jump buses with their parents and even lap their younger one so the fare would suffice.

Some of you don't know what it means for school fees to not be paid. You just find yourself going to school whenever school resumes and then vacation to London in summer. Others have to be embarrassed in the presence of their friends and watch their parents continually beg the principal for grace time.

Se of you know where your future is headed even in SS1. Your parents have told you that you're going to Covenant for your first degree, after which you get a Masters at the London School of Economics. Others have to first focus on the cheapest school and catchment area to increase their chances of admission and actually staying in school.

Some of you get up to N300k monthly as allowance while other get N20k and "remember the child of whom you are, remember the home you come from."

Some of you can afford to fail. There is financial might to back you up. If you fail, you try again. You can even try something else, and it would be funded. Others cannot afford to fail. They need to succeed at all cost to break the cycle of poverty. They also have siblings looking up to them because investment in you means taking over your parents' responsibility to help with your siblings' welfare.
