CNN just covered the story of my book in depth.
"I was interviewed live on the news in Pakistan and I got so many calls from my village. "People saw me and they said 'now we believe you wrote a book."

Joachim Alva on Bacha Khan (Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan), 1943:
“Had he been of the party of Greek heroes besieging Troy, he would have been paired with Achilles, the object of King Priam’s admiration: —“How large he was and of what mien.”
Many things about “Snow,” the photographer Sohrab Hura’s new volume of images from Kashmir, feel incomplete—but purposefully so, as if partially occluding our gaze might also focus it. Each of the 175 photos sits by itself, square and silent, on a white page, without a jot of text to indicate when and where it was taken, or what it depicts. There’s no introductory or concluding essay, merely a couple of notes. And finally, there’s barely any direct sign of the conflict that has, for decades, eaten into the very bones of Kashmir, a territory claimed so ferociously by India and Pakistan that they’ve fought several wars over it, pushing its people into anger, ruin, and, since the 1980s, armed uprisings against Indian rule. The standard lexicon of documentary photos from Kashmir includes army convoys and barricades, soldiers and protestors, fear and hostility. In “Snow,” “I spotted armed troops only twice: once in a small, loose coterie ambling near a railway line, and again in an image of a single man attired pudgily in both camo and winterwear, standing in a patch of brambly land, his helmet on the ground next to him. All these officers seem unsure of what to do or where to look—which is entirely unlike the Indian military’s brutal, relentless approach to holding Kashmir,” Samanth Subramanian writes. Painting of Rania with her beloved twin babies, Wesan & Naeem, in burial shrouds - by Irish artist and activist Anne-Marie Farrell.
Rania waited for them for eleven years of infertility, they were her little miracles. At 6 months old they were killed along with her husband & 11 family members when the IOF bombed the Al-Salam neighbourhood in Rafah, Gaza Strip, on March 3 2024.
I have no words to describe the loss this mother, endured... her entire world decimated in a second like so many.
The richest debates & product breakthroughs we've had @metalraise always had one thing in common — someone clearly explaining the "why" behind their thinking.
Not just what they believed. But why.
"John recommended it" is not a sufficient answer. Critical thinking is a baseline expectation.
A quote we live by:
"Be ruthless in how you evaluate content. Be kind and respectful in how you treat people. Do not confuse the two."

As a Pakistani I feel a sense of pride that we are continuing our tradition of facilitating regional & global peace. Today we are again centre stage as Iran & US meet for peace talks in Islamabad. But as a mother I can't forget today is 79th day of Imaan & Hadi's illegal incarceration.
Fehmida Leghari is reported to have taken her own life at Muhammadi Medical College Mirpurkhas. Reports from her family reveal that she was harassed by teachers and male students. This is not the first case of its kind. Students and staff are provided no education on harassment and how to stop it neither has anyone been brought to account.
summer 2015, i had just moved to the US for YC, still scared of speaking english. i was big fan of PG and everyone at YC who wrote, sam was not my partner but i was so curious and saw how everyone around him acted a bit intimidated by him.
i meet sam during our office hours and i start by asking him “are you a supernatural person or phenomena, why is everyone so scared of you” he laughed a lot, then asked me my story, then tweeted this, then invited me to his sf apartment for tea and to go through his sneaker/shoes. worked with me on my pitch deck, introduced me to alfred lin (big Zappos fan here!) when i asked.
years later when i was starting something new and didn’t want to raise money from anyone, i asked him anyway he declined but was kind and supportive about it.
i sent him a late wedding gift, a painting my daughter aliff made when she was two, because i wanted to remind him what matters. i’m glad he’s a father now.
i don’t know the man in the article everyone is reading. i never worked with him directly. i know the one who laughed at my strange question and then asked me mine. admittedly i don’t know how to hold both and i’m not trying to.
Saba Mahmood was arguably Pakistan’s finest scholar with a lasting global imprint in academia. So heartening to see her legacy preserved through a fellowship in her name by her family for MPhil students studying humanities & social sciences @LifeAtLUMS. A fitting tribute to a towering intellect.

Islamabad police broke windows of car, brutalized lawyers, and arrested @ImaanZHazir and Hadi chattha in Islamabad over a fake case on the whims and orders of military establishment selling Gaza Abroad. This is dictatorship and we have to resist it.
Here are the books I read this year that clarified and magnified my life, that will stay with me for the rest of it — from art and philosophy to memoirs and children's books https://t.co/WRTVFAgV9x
