TIL the term 'Dixie' is derived from the (heavily gold-backed) 'DIX' bank notes from 19th-century Louisiana. Upper midwest traders traveling back up the Mississippi would be whistling dixie with their pockets stuffed full of ten dollar notes. All roads lead to monetary history.
