Race based discrimination + bias = race based trauma. Consider race-based traumatic stress theory (Carter, 2007).
Trauma informed MUST be paired w/ABAR (antibias/antiracist) actions.
Failure to do so = prime example of what @DenaSimmons calls “white supremacy w/a hug”

this is why I’m passionate about discipline disproportionality. Because I believe it’s absolutely something we can address if we change our lenses and thinking about how it happens. Now let me log off and go write.

hoping this semester is productive for me and that I’m able to successfully defend my proposal and begin my research.
black children deserve more than trauma at school. community always trumps carcerality + consideration of the teaching force’s demographic comp is a MUST.
im focusing on leaders as levers but let’s bffr, teachers are a major linchpin here. listening to them teachers plot to punish punitively is a reality that is far too real. i KNOW im not the only 1 who loved this. school safety requires community not carcerality or its systems.
We must not delude ourselves in this moment. Multiracial democracy in the United States is less than 60 years old. It has always been contested, often violently so. It has always been fragile. Since this nation's inception large swaths of white Americans -- including white women -- have claimed a belief in democracy while actually enforcing a white ethnocracy. In the face of shifting demographics where white Americans will lose their numeric majority, we see a growing embrace of autocracy to keep the "legitimate" rulers of this country in power. History teaches us that we are in a perilous moment.
All hands on deck! This is why I love my principal! Original members of the Student Athlete Advisory Council Seniors Adonis McCrary, Miranda DelValle Genchi, and Jontae Gilbert enjoyed being on the other side of the table!!! Served for 3 years, now let us serve you!The Astro Way!
School improvement warriors make a mistake in thinking everyone wants the same things they want. Often, job security and/or not upsetting the status quo is much more important to leaders than doing whatever it takes to teach a child to read. Playing it straight is a non-strategy.
i did a workshop last week w/ a group of yt queer organizers and i told them that their so called « activist fatigue » is b/c they don’t have an embodied liberation practice they can draw from since they spend more time appropriating the knowledge systems of non-yt people instead
