75 Years of: Persistence ✨
Wildcat 91.9 is celebrating both International Women’s Day and 75 years of KSDB this month. Summer Sperke (aka our fearless leader) is a great example of how women can make a difference in broadcasting.
Happy International Women’s Day to all the women at Wildcat 91.9 💜

A note from our Assistant Chief Operator @dawsonwagnair
The Holiday season was a weird one for me this year. I’m so thankful for all the support from friends and family that I’ve had. But I haven’t been able to put into words just how much Ian Punnett meant to me and how his passing has impacted my life.
For those that did not know him, Ian was a broadcast legend. Known for his witty remarks and hilarious commentary on the radio, online and in-person. He truly knew how to entertain a room. For those that were privileged enough to take one of his classes or work with him at Wildcat 91.9, you know this first hand.
He was a leader in many ways; a professor, mentor, and creative visionary who could edit sound into story unlike anybody I’ve ever known. But above all else, he was a friend. Known officially as Dr. Ian Punnett, if you knew him personally though, you know just how much he didn’t want you to call him that. He preferred Ian.
Honestly I’ve been avoiding making this post because it hurt too much but I need to keep moving forward for him and Wildcat 91.9 needs to keep moving forward as well. That’s what Ian would have wanted.
Thankfully Ian has taught, trained, and mentored so many students over the years at K-State. These students can continue by carrying on his legacy. We have a strong executive board, many talented students, and committed staff members that will keep carrying the torch forward while honoring Ian and his accomplishments.
There are a lot of decisions that will need to be made in the coming weeks and an interim COO will be appointed for 91.9 before we start the spring semester. But one thing is for sure. Ian’s legacy and impact across the nation and at Kansas State University will never be forgotten. Plans for a memorial service are in the works and dedications to him will be announced soon.
To everyone who called, texted or posted a thoughtful memory online about Ian in the last two weeks. Thank you💜
The outpouring of support has been overwhelming and affirming to hear just how many people appreciated Ian for the man he was.
It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Ian Punnett passed away from a brief illness yesterday. His keen intellect and delightful sense of humor will be deeply missed. Since 2000, Ian has been a valued host of C2C. https://t.co/BhcVkw7ISm
Ian was far more than a professor, boss, and mentor. He was my friend.
I was talking to my dad a couple weeks ago about Ian and my he said, “i think you’re his squire”. And I think that sums it up pretty well.
I am sad to have lost such a great friend and role model.
In honor of a life well lived, we share with sadness and grief that our Chief Operator Dr. Ian Punnett passed away early this morning. After fighting an illness for the last few months Ian passed peacefully surrounded by his wife and son. Words cannot capture the essence of Ian’s accomplishments and leadership capabilities. He was a one of a kind professor, author and broadcaster that brought the best out in his students.
Most importantly, he was dedicated to not only training excellent broadcasters, but excellent people. In honor of his life that touched so many, if you have a memory of Ian that you would like to share, please do so below.
He is survived by his wife Margery and two sons.
Ian's induction into the KAB Hall of Fame was a delightful surprise, but for those of us who've had the privilege of being mentored by him, it was no shock at all. A true leader, Ian's influence has reached far and wide on the airwaves and at the nation's best college radio station. 📻🏆 Wildcat 91.9 is proud of you @deaconpunnett !
