The House passed bipartisan legislation to extend protections for Haitians in April. It’s impt for the Senate to act asap after the harmful ruling today. Let’s keep families together and able to earn a living. https://t.co/eUMI8oLk29
My heart is with the people of Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes. I am praying for the families grieving the loss of loved ones, those recovering from their injuries, and the courageous first responders working tirelessly to save lives.
My comments for @Newsweek: "The lack of capacity in the current government is likely to force the Trump administration to exercise a larger role in the recovery, and that could eventually carry consequences as well for President Trump."

El área de expansión sísmica fue apareciendo progresivamente a lo largo del eje Puerto Cabello-Maracay-Caracas-La Guaira.

Today’s Supreme Court decision allowing the termination of TPS for Haitians and Syrians puts hundreds of thousands of lives at risk, including many members of Miami-Dade’s vibrant Haitian community.
These are our neighbors, healthcare workers, educators, and small business owners. Sending them back to dangerous and unstable conditions is not who we are.
I urge the U.S. Senate to act without delay and pass legislation to extend TPS for Haitians.
Delcy Rodriguez’ dictatorship has yet to send rescue teams to La Guaira but did send her forces to tell activists with Maria Corina Machado’s party that they can’t set up collection centers! They have the audacity to say only the regime’s socialist party can do it. GROTESQUE!!!
The Supreme Court just cleared the way to begin deporting hundreds of thousands of Haitians and several thousand Syrians who have lived and worked in the US for years. This ruling lets the administration end humanitarian protection by fiat, with no court able to stop it while the case proceeds.
This is a disgraceful attack on our neighbors and cruelty dressed up as law.
Tens of thousands of Haitian TPS holders work as the nurses and home health aides caring for our seniors. Ripping away their status hurts every family that depends on their care.
What's enraging is that Caracas is known to be a city susceptible to quakes. After the 67' quake, during democratic times, buildings were built to survive them and we grew up doing quake drills in school often. There is absolutely no reason for the nation to be this unprepared for this tragedy- and chavismo is to blame.
Devastating video. Praying for the people there. As someone who was an Emergency Management director, search and rescue operations are what matters right now.
I am heartbroken and infuriated by the Supreme Court’s despicable decision on TPS for Haitians and Syrians. I plan to introduce a bill to reverse this ruling.
This callous ruling will have devastating implications for 1.3 million TPS recipients who have been targeted by Trump despite abiding by the law and contributing to Florida’s economy. The Court selectively ignored Trump’s open racism against Haitians to imply that race was not a factor in this case. We all know better.
Hundreds of thousands of families who followed the law, passed multiple criminal background checks, earned work permits, and paid taxes will be torn apart, thrown in ICE jails, or sent back to a nation overrun by criminal gangs who murder and kidnap at will. Haitian-American children—U.S. citizens—will be orphaned, detained in horrific conditions, or deported alongside their parents to imminent danger. Americans will pay even higher prices for groceries, healthcare, housing, and childcare.
I have proudly led the fight to protect Venezuelan, Haitian, and Cuban immigrant communities from Trump’s collective punishment. I led nearly 200 Congressional Democrats in an amicus brief defending TPS in this Supreme Court case, and I fought alongside @RepPressley to successfully force a House vote on legislation extending TPS for Haiti.
This fight is not over. The mission to protect our law-abiding neighbors from ICE brutality and provide a lawful pathway to permanent status has never been more urgent, and I will continue working tirelessly to achieve those goals.
We are praying for those affected by these twin earthquakes in Venezuela. It is critical for the US to assist with their recovery and reinstitute Venezuela TPS to help the diaspora here. https://t.co/X3vBul7Hos
The chavista regime ruined the country to the extent that there is no capacity to respond to this tragedy. Venezuela will need a Marshall Plan to recover after this catastrophe.
This decision could impact 1.3 million people on TPS, some who have been here since the early 90s. This is a devastating loss for millions of American families, and countless employers will soon be losing workers. This is the biggest de-legalization moment in modern history.
