@Headteacherchat I feel it’s so much more than a scheme. Every staff member needs to understand how to form letters correctly and be on pupils when it’s not neat enough or formed correctly. This needs to be picked up on all lessons - not just in handwriting lessons.

During the academic year we have created a FOMO week leading up to the end of each half term to boost attendance.

12 days of Christmas ✅
The great Easter hunt ✅

For the end of the summer term we will be launching the summer sprint.

We have seen an uplift of 6-8% in attendance throughout the themed weeks compared with previous academic years.

There have been times when the pushbacks have been difficult but consistency is key to school improvement.

Every time a student challenged our new routines we went back to our ‘why’ and held firm.

This doesn’t have to be done in a confrontational way. It’s important to listen to why there is pushback and apply reasonable adjustments where necessary.

Often the reason for pushback is because people don’t know the why.

Shifting the narrative: I’ve put my rusty A* in maths to good use & built an embarrassingly basic calculator for academies to measure the extra learning hrs happening each week, half-term, etc. Gains can be shared with parents & students - normalising good/improved attendance💹
