We could automate menial jobs so people have time to make art and music but apparently we’d rather automate art and music so people have time for menial jobs.

My final market of 2022 is coming up this Sunday @sjfmnl!

[Business and Arts NL @BizArtsNL]

[Catherine Martin @cathmartingreen]

Today is an historic day for the arts in Ireland

2,000 artists & arts workers have been selected for the Basic Income for the Arts pilot scheme

They will receive €325 per week for 3 years

This is the beginning of what I hope is a new era for the arts

Seems a parallel for how we (white, western societies) have white-washed history and cultures. Erosion over time makes artifacts smooth and white, and we fill in the blanks from our own perspective in the absence of their original texture, colour, story. Erasure. It's for us now.

[Royal Ontario Museum @ROMtoronto]

Sculptures in ancient Greece, from about 2,000 – 3,000 years ago, would have always been brightly painted!

Shown here is Kore 670 today, and how she would have appeared 2500 years ago.

Kore 670 is on loan from the @acropolismuseum and will be returned Sept. 25.

@DaveAlexRoberts Got mine from our local indigenous org.
Glad W collab w/ indigenous artist. FWIW "100% of proceeds" means that W covers all their costs first AND they can write off the donation. Buying thru W still supports a harmful multinational corp. I'm too cynical to not find this ick.

[Hibernating Fox Studios @hibernatingfox]

@MatthewLeDrew We went off the rails pretty hard there, haha! Great chat!

"'Art is born like a foal that can walk straight away,' wrote John Berger, 'the talent to make art accompanies the need for that art'"
Robert MacFarlane, The Underland
Now I have to find where the original quote came from.

[Auraaa @aurwoora]
