@allafarce@AnthropicAI What’s the best way to connect? The DLBA is the world’s largest land bank with the responsibilities to match. We need to transform our processes to respond and deliver for all stakeholders. The applicability for similar projects with other governmental entities is great.
@ZugIslander Anecdotally, I agree. Demo was simply a short-term, politically-driven decision that lacked long-term vision. That said, do you have examples of neighborhoods that fall into one group or the other?
@ZaidJilani Alternatively, they could just say what they really believe, provide a brief explanation of why they believe it, and then move on. Having a gender expansive view would not sink a strong candidate.
@ZaidJilani Watching Ken Burns’ American Revolution. Upon reflection, what caught up with me most about George Washington (and the broader times) was the incomprehensible evil of slavery. Kidnapping people on one continent and selling them on another. Wasn’t unaware before, just newly aghast
@zachdcarter One of the major achievements of Xi Jinping seems to be providing people with food security. It’s such a meaningful achievement that people are willing to put up many other things in exchange for stable food supply. America, again, heading in the opposite direction of rational.
@mims Another way to deploy a few trillion would be a nationwide high-speed transit network that increases mobility and interconnectedness. Much less energy intense, increases human connection, reduces CO2, props up mid-sized cities, etc.. probably a better ROI, however you measure it
@violetikon Admittedly, the words used in economic development are (probably) intentionally opaque. Big difference is the use of public funds. $74M, which makes up the majority of the incentive, doesn’t come out of the public’s pocket, it merely isn’t captured on top of current property tax
@ZaidJilani I think there’s a lot to critique regarding Slotkin’s proposals, but I also give her credit for getting out and proposing something to address the issues of the day, even if the framing is contrived. Admittedly, a low bar these days, but at least she’s stepping over it.
@ZaidJilani Michigan Secretary of State (our DMV) running efficient processes as well. Same with voter registration and operations, especially since 2020. Perhaps, sometimes, these things get bad enough that they become punchlines, but they’re examples of govt services working properly now
With City of Detroit recently transitioning from bi-weekly to weekly recycling pickups, a question that came to mind is: Does the amount of gas and energy used to pickup our mostly unrecyclable recyclables outweigh the benefits of recycling? cc: @hankgreen
