At the #SB60 in Bonn, Germany, mountain countries came together to jointly raise the alarm on the impacts of the #climatechange on the billions dependent on mountain resources.
Key highlights from #SB60 Expert Dialogue on #mountains
🔹 secured recognition of significance of mountains and need for continuation of this work by @COP29_AZ Presidency
🔹 advocated that climate-induced disasters and the repercussions do not remain in high altitudes, impacting the ecosystems, development gains, and billions of people living in the lowlands.
🔹 highlighted that while mountains remain the most vulnerable (eg. the extreme case of Venezuela losing all its glaciers), unfortunately, enormous gaps still exist especially in #ClimateFinance.
🔹called for an urgent need for a united/coordinated approach for transformative initiatives in addressing mountain issues in addition to national efforts, and urgent call to deliver on commitments under the Paris Agreement.
The event was attended by representatives from ICIMOD’s Regional Member Countries, as well as ICIMOD's @izabella_koz, @JbPradyumna and Kunzang, and @drcarolinadler, Director @MtnResearchMRI and member of ICIMOD’s Board.
