In 2023, the Davis City Council honored the Hindu American Foundation as part of a coordinated campaign across seven Sacramento-area cities. Four days later, the governor vetoed SB 403, an anti-caste discrimination bill HAF lobbied to kill. HAF also helped kill SB 509, a unanimously passed bill to train law enforcement to recognize transnational repression — after the DOJ indicted a former Indian intelligence officer for plotting to assassinate an American citizen on U.S. soil. HAF brought UC Davis students into the council chamber as the public face of the campaign. This is a city that launched Hate-Free Together. It deserves to know who it's endorsing.

The readout shows that transnational repression was not discussed as Canada moves to normalize ties with Modi as India counties to engage in state sponsored terrorism in Canada.

Following Deputy Mayor Harkirat Singh's motion, unanimously approved by our #Brampton City Council, we respectfully request that the Government of Canada take the following actions to combat the rise of extortions.

1) Extend dedicated extortion and organized-crime task-force funding to the Region of Peel, mirroring the federal funding and operational model established in British Columbia.

2) Provide targeted funding for victim support and community outreach, including culturally informed services, safety planning, and initiatives that encourage reporting and protect those who come forward.

3) Establish formal intelligence-sharing and coordination frameworks between federal, provincial, and municipal law enforcement agencies to enable the effective disruption of transnational criminal networks operating across borders and jurisdictions.

In collaboration with human rights organizations, BC Sikh Societies are organizing a seminar to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Sardar Jaswant Singh Khalra’s martyrdom.

The organizers emphasize that this event is not just about celebrating his legacy, remembrance, and human rights, but also about discussing the current challenges faced by Canadian Sikhs 30 years after his passing, during his visit to Canada.

They explain that in the 1990s, Sardar Khalra spoke in Ottawa about the oppression of Sikhs in India by the Indian state and was brutally tortured upon his return. However, that oppression has transcended borders now, impacting Canada, the USA, and the UK.

Eight days ago, shots were fired in broad daylight at a home near 170 Street and 32 Avenue in Surrey, and a young worker was struck in the face by a bullet.

More than a week has passed, yet the bullet lodged near his nose and jaw still hasn’t been removed. Instead of receiving timely treatment, he was discharged from the hospital and sent on a stressful loop of medical appointments. Along with the psychological trauma, he continues to suffer intense physical pain.

This is a stark reflection of the alarming collapse of B.C.’s healthcare system.
