📷📷 A huge thank you to Chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, Terra Lawson-Remer, for her continued support of High Tech High students and college access opportunities.
At the kickoff of College and Career Week 2026, we were honored to recognize the County of San Diego's investment in our students through a $20,000 grant awarded to the High Tech High Foundation to support College Caravans at our Point Loma schools. These experiences help students explore college campuses, envision their futures, and connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities.
We were also pleased to welcome Matthew Tilyer, representing Supervisor Lawson-Remer, who joined us to celebrate the launch of College and Career Week and share the County’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for young people across our region.
College aspirations become reality when communities invest in students. Thank you, Supervisor Lawson-Remer and the County of San Diego, for helping open doors and expand possibilities for the next generation. 📷📷

Support High Tech Eats 🍎
Please support our scratch cooking by encouraging your students to get school breakfast and lunch! It is free for all students.
Students get school lunch less in April, May and June. We anticipate a drop of about 30,000 lunches alone between now and the end of the year, which means a huge loss in revenue for our kitchens. We want to keep our scratch-cook program going strong through the end of the year, so please don't forget about us!
Here are a few easy ways you can support:
Encourage students to grab breakfast and lunch (it’s free for students!)
Post the menus in your classroom
Try it yourself! $4 Breakfast, $6 Lunch
Order field trip meals if you need them (please give us two weeks’ notice)
Fill out a field trip form for field trips, intersession, etc!
Potlucks - notify us at [email protected] if you’re making other lunch plans
See you at lunch!

For current HTH students, De’Andre’s advice is simple: “Keep all options open and don’t burn any bridges. You don’t have to have it all figured out right now—just keep progressing toward something.”
Today, as De’Andre supports historic space missions and serves his country, he remains connected to the High Tech High community. A sibling is currently attending HTH.
His journey is proof that paths aren’t always linear, but preparation matters.
“By finishing my education, it kept the door open for me to become a military officer,” he said. “I didn’t figure this path was for me until after graduating from college. …I’m a big dreamer. I always feel like I’m two steps away from the next big breakthrough.”

One by one, our HTHNC seniors stepped forward to ring the bell—marking the moment they committed to their next chapter after graduation. Each ring reflected years of hard work, challenges overcome, dreams pursued, and the support of a community that stood beside them along the way.
More than a sound, the bell is a symbol of perseverance, courage, and the doors of opportunity now open before them.

From High Tech High Chula Vista to the bright lights of Major League Soccer ⚽✨
We’re proud to celebrate Jude Terry, a South County native and former High Tech Chula Vista student, who is making his mark at just 17 years old with LAFC. This includes earning Goal of the Matchday honors with 41.3% of the fan vote in April 👏. Before the bright lights of MLS, Jude and his sister, Sadie, were part of the HTCV community.
As shared by his mom, Claudia: “Being a part of the High Tech High Chula Vista school community helped our family achieve life-changing dreams… so much of their confidence comes from project-based learning at High Tech.”
This Saturday, Jude returns home as LAFC faces SDFC at Snapdragon Stadium. We’ll be cheering him on every step of the way 🙌. Once a student in our classrooms, always a part of our community.

High Tech High is proud to celebrate School Nutrition Employee Week, April 27–May 1, 2026.
Every day, our school nutrition professionals do far more than prepare meals—they help create the conditions for learning. From planning balanced menus to accommodating diverse needs and preferences, their work fuels student focus, supports long-term health, and builds a sense of community on our campuses.
When students are well nourished, they are better able to engage, think critically, and thrive in and out of the classroom. Our nutrition staff plays a vital role in that success, often starting their day before the first bell and staying long after the last student has left.
To our incredible school nutrition teams across High Tech High: thank you for your dedication, your care for our students, and the countless unseen efforts that make every school day possible. We appreciate you—this week and every week.

We did it. 1 million meals served since last fall.
High Tech Eats was built on one simple idea: real food, made right. That is why 90 percent of what we serve is made from scratch, every single day, for every single guest.
Here is to the next million meals, the teams in our kitchens, and the communities we get to serve. Thanks for being part of this journey.

From High Tech High North County to the great outdoors! 🌲 We are so proud to celebrate Natalya (’21), who recently graduated from Michigan State University and is now starting her career with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Natalya’s journey from the skating rink to the DNR is a testament to the power of self-advocacy. Her advice to the NextGen? “Take a risk and go see different places!” Congrats, Natalya! ⛸️✨

Student-run Coffee Stand operated by a brother and sister team. The brother is in 12th grade, started it as a project, and then hired his sister, who is in 9th grade. Students are encouraged to start careers as entrepreneurs.

At High Tech High Chula Vista, entrepreneurship isn't just taught — it's lived.
What started as an honors biology project by Diego Marquez has grown into Cup O Diem, a student-run coffee bar operating on campus every single school day. The name says it all: Cup O Diem comes from carpe diem — seize the day — and that's exactly what these students are doing.
Diego, now a senior, built the business from the ground up. He purchased the coffee machine, developed the concept, and turned a classroom project into a real, revenue-generating operation. As it grew, he did what any entrepreneur would do: he hired. First, he brought on Karla's brother as a junior. Then came Karla Gaytan, now in 9th grade, who joined the team and stepped into her very first job.
Every morning from 7:35 to 8:40 AM, Karla and her team run the stand — taking orders, greeting customers, managing operations, and learning what it means to balance work and school simultaneously. For Karla, this isn't just coffee. It's her first real experience with leadership, communication, and professional responsibility. This happens all before first period.
But Cup O Diem is about more than hustle. The business is built with community and sustainability at its core. They use organic beans and organic milk, compost all coffee grounds, and have even invested in café chairs to create a welcoming, comfortable space where every student feels safe and at home. They are still paying off the machine — a real-world lesson in business investment and long-term thinking.
This is what HTH Chula Vista does differently. Students aren't waiting until college or adulthood to become entrepreneurs — they're doing it now, in the hallways, before the school day even begins. From a biology project to a thriving small business, passed from a senior to a junior to a freshman sibling, Cup O Diem is proof that when young people are trusted with real responsibility, they rise to meet it.
Seize the day. ☕

High Tech High Chula Vista students launched their internship journey with Internship Interview Day, where community and business mentors met with juniors and helped match them with meaningful, real-world placements. Beginning in late April, students will step into five-week, full-time academic internships, working 30–40 hours per week alongside professionals across San Diego in fields ranging from healthcare and engineering to media, education, business, and the nonprofit sector.
#HighTechHigh #InternshipJourney #ChulaVista #InterviewDay #CommunityMentors
Every February, High Tech High Chula Vista students walk into their first-ever professional interview — nervous, uncertain, but ready to show up.
Through resume workshops, mock interviews, and a "dress for success" session, students like Jennifer Pak and Cyrus Estrada arrive prepared. And they leave with something even more valuable than interview experience: self-awareness, confidence, and a clearer vision of their future.
Community partners come to campus to conduct real interviews and offer real feedback — many going on to host students for five-week internships in May.
As Internship Coordinator Yoli Soler puts it: "It's adults showing their faith in our students and mentoring them to become the best leaders in our community."
For these students, Internship Interview Day isn't just a requirement. It's the moment potential starts to feel real. 🌱
