BREAKING: Ken Paxton’s own lawyer just endorsed James Talarico:
“I defended Ken Paxton for years in the impeachment trial and in state criminal cases. But in my view, I think Ken has lost sight of his core mission, which is to represent the people of Texas.
And unlike Ken, I believe that you, James, believe in unity over division and that you know how to assemble not only Democrats but Independents and Republicans and we need that right now.
We need unity, we don't need any more division and that's why I'm supporting you.”
New statement from Scott Pelley:
There has never been anything in America like 60 Minutes.
The Sunday tradition is the most successful program of any kind in history. For more than a decade, its innovative growth on every major online platform has extended its reach to countless millions around the world. This spring, at the end of our 58thseason, 60 Minutes grew rapidly with an unheard-of 9% jump in viewers on CBS.
“60” has been the number-one program in America for decades because our beloved audience finds integrity, quality, and humanity in our stories. When stewardship of the program passed to my colleagues and me, our responsibility was to expand energetically into a new age of media technology while preserving the values our audience expects. Now, the new owner of our network is casting this legend aside, apparently to curry a moment of favor with the Trump administration.
The waste is heartbreaking.
Last month, 60 Minutes lost its DNA when our entire senior leadership and two of our best on-air correspondents were cruelly fired without cause. Good people were silenced because they stood up for our audience. They stood for fairness against the forces of political bias; they stood for professionalism against chaos.
For my part, new management has instructed me to inject falsehoods and bias into a politically sensitive story. I’ve been told to include assertions that are unverified. To date, in every case, I have managed to ignore these instructions or refuse them. Recently, politicians have been invited to choose correspondents for interviews on the broadcast. Giving politicians control over 60 Minutes interviews is not how this is done. Finally, incompetence and unprofessionalism in the new management have wreaked havoc. In a case involving one of my stories, the entire program came within 19 minutes of not getting on the air at all.
At 60 Minutes, we have fought harder than anyone knows to save the program that became an American icon. We owed that to our millions of viewers. I am deeply moved by the thousands of wishes we have received to “keep up the good fight.” Most of the men and women of CBS News are still in that fight. But now the collapse of values at the top has become untenable. The leadership of 60 Minutes is no longer recognizable. The principles I hold dear are gone, and so I must leave as well.
I depart after 37 years at CBS with one emotion—a heart brimming with gratitude for the men and women of CBS News who encouraged and enriched my work, very often at the risk of their own lives. I pray for a day when those people and their ideals are honored again—a day when sanity, competence, and courage return.

It's time to retire this idea from some that Democrats should nominate a straight white guy in 2028 to be "safe."
Just look at GOP attacks on James Talarico, a straight white Christian.
They're calling him "Tofu Talarico" and "transgender" and running the exact same culture-war playbook they've used on everyone else.
They called Joe Biden a communist.
Don't base decisions on GOP talking points. Pick the best candidates and stand by your values.
The old Don Jr. absentee father storyline lives on:
“You’re having a lot of difficulty with your 12-year-old son Donny. You haven’t spoken to him since May.”
GOP Senator Thom Tillis slams Trump’s $1.8B slush fund:
“I think it’s stupid on stilts… Taxpayer dollars will compensate someone who assaulted a police officer, got convicted…and now we’re going to pay him for that? This is absurd!”
I don’t get it. @RepThomasMassie is a conservative. He just happens to think from himself & stick to his principles. How is this country in favor of blind loyalty. WTF are we doing?
BREAKING: Ed Gallrein defeats Kentucky U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie in the GOP primary for US. House after a concerted effort by President Donald Trump to oust Massie from Congress. https://t.co/pUGXnGgmwz
Imagine living in a country where Epstein’s victims get ignored while January 6 rioters line up for payouts.
A functioning society compensates victims. A broken one rewards insurrectionists.
Thats how f**ked up this administration is.
The Trump Slush Fund is even worse than expected: because he and @DAGToddBlanche know that this whole lawsuit was illegal, they withdrew the case so the judge can’t rule on its legality!
This is just mind-boggling corruption. And the “lawsuit” was all a ruse.
Trump and Blanche must be removed from office immediately.

"Trump is trying to create a new status quo where his say-so is enough to overturn the will of two thirds of Congress on spending matters. It’s un-American. It’s emperor stuff. If they had a shred of dignity left, they’d impeach the son of a bitch today." https://t.co/IZQQckFK5O
President Trump's $1.776 billion settlement with the IRS is one of the single most corrupt acts in American history.
They moved fast to avoid the scrutiny of the judicial process, and very likely violated the Constitution. This is an outrage.
Remember that $10B lawsuit Trump filed against the IRS over his tax returns leaking? He’s 'dropping' it in exchange for a taxpayer-funded slush fund so he can pay off his political allies and friends.
You're being robbed.
I simply could not imagine being in congress and staying silent as Trump builds a slush fund of $1.776 (cute right… 1776) billion dollar slush fund for insurrrectionists.
What are these people even there for?
History will be brutal to them. And their kids will be embarrassed
Trump didn’t just pardon his followers who stormed the U.S. Capitol.
He’s now set them up for payments through a slush fund he created to reward his allies—out of your tax dollars.
You could not make this up.
