Andreessen: Biden Admin Officials Were ‘Out for Blood’ on AI Regulation

Marc Andreessen shares alarming details about meetings with Biden administration officials in May 2023 concerning AI regulation and control.

He described these meetings as “absolutely horrifying,” noting that the staff seemed “radicalized” and “out for blood.” He said, “We came out basically deciding we had to endorse Trump.”

ANDREESSEN: “They said look they said AI is one of these technologies basically that the government is going to completely control. This is not going to be a startup thing. They actually said flat out to us, 'Don’t start, don’t do AI startups, like don’t fund AI startups. It’s not something that we’re going to allow to happen.”

Not only did Biden officials discouraged AI startup investments, but advocated for AI to be limited to 2-3 major companies under government control.

ANDREESSEN: “They basically said AI is going to be a a game of two or three big companies um working closely with the government um and we’re going to basically wrap them in a you know they I’m paraphrasing but we’re going to basically wrap them in a government cocoon.”

Andreessen's dislike for regulation and tech led him to back Trump, marking a key moment for American innovation.
