There is a Greek myth about a Titan named Prometheus who stole fire from the gods and gave it to humanity.

The gods punished him for it.

Not because fire was inherently evil.

Because fire was power, and power was supposed to flow in one direction only.

The empire does not tell this story about nuclear weapons because the analogy is too precise and too damning.

The United States built the bomb with the help of scientists who fled fascism, tested it on indigenous land without the consent of indigenous people, used it on Asian civilians, and then spent eighty years insisting it alone had the wisdom and the restraint and the civilizational maturity to be trusted with it.

Meanwhile, the countries it invaded, destabilized, sanctioned, and threatened looked at the fire.

And reached for it.

Not because they want to burn the world.

Because Prometheus understood something that every enslaved person understands before the philosophers do:

The gods are not actually gods.

They are just the ones who got to the fire first.
