"One of the criticisms I've faced over the years is that I'm not aggressive enough or assertive enough, or maybe somehow, because I'm empathetic, it means I'm weak. I totally rebel against that. I refuse to believe that you cannot be both compassionate & strong." Jacinda Ardern
Instead of doing the obvious thing and putting us under one national HSE payroll, they have now made our payslips even more difficult to interpret. Not to mention that emergency tax takes at least 3 months to rectify… 🤦🏼♀️ @IMO_IRL this is not a solution #StandingUp4NCHDs
@IMO_IRL are hospital HRs allowed to change our increment dates as they wish or are we entitled to our increment dates as outlined in the verification of service forms from previous employers? Anyone else having this issue? #standingupfornchds
Catching up on @RTE_PrimeTime - the fact that @DonnellyStephen wants to ensure that we have “somewhere to put your wallet, somewhere to lock your bike, somewhere to hang your coat and somewhere to get water” really says it all 🤦🏼♀️ #StandingUp4NCHDs
I used to walk around wondering trying desperately to address some mental health issue I assumed I had, some sort of depression that made me too "weak" to be a doctor (as is instilled by the culture) and it's only now I realise it's Irish medicine. The cure was getting out.
Being a junior doctor does provide some transferable skills that aren’t specific to medicine. Like I am SO good at moving house. Practice makes perfect.
The 6 monthly text to my accountant brother-in-law to clarify that I’m on the wrong tax basis once again…! 🤞🏻 it will be corrected soon, only for it to happen again in January 2023 🤦🏼♀️ #standingup4nchds@IMO_IRL@RevenueIE
@cihalpin Also as an intern (2018) I was pretty nifty with a fax machine, using it at least 4 times daily…but only one in the whole hospital, located in the basement…
@cihalpin In the year 2022, this is the form we fill out to get paid each month…filling in boxes with X’s, getting it signed off and posting it to HR! Worked in a hotel as a teenager in 2009 and even then we had a clock in/clock out system using finger prints 😂
@newschambers @IMO_IRL@health_irish I have had to send 6 “verification of service” letters all signed and stamped by previous employers, an up to date CV, my degree certificate AND my transcripts translated into English…and I am still on the incorrect payscale and have no contract 5 weeks into my new job…
@EmmaMcI81998865 @BabyMonsterGoon I’ve worked in regional hospitals with one doctor on nights to cover 200 beds…I always quoted this to nursing colleagues when they told me they have unsafe ratios..! We are all over stretched, but saying you’re not trained just adds to poor nursing/doctor relationships
NCHDs have voted “overwhelmingly” in favour of industrial action, up to and including strike action

After a 24 hour Friday shift January ‘21 in which we palliated 8 COVID patients and ran out of non-invasive ventilation, I was almost turned away from the vaccine queue in my hospital because it was changeover weekend…so I lied and said I wasn’t moving hospital #StandingUp4NCHDs
It’s a small indignity, but I remember when some Irish hospitals tried to deny some NCHDs the covid vaccine in January 2020 because it was close to changeover and they didn’t want to “waste” vaccine doses on their transient NCHD workforce. #StandingUp4NCHDs
"Many hospitals are heavily dependent on NCHDs who work for lengthy periods without rest. This is not satisfactory either for patients or doctors. EWTD will bring important changes to working patterns of NCHDs from August 2004"
Micheál Martin - Minister for Health, 2003 (1/5)
Just imagine any private company being presented with data like this by their workforce. What would their response be?
Horrifying figures
