27Jan1839 pugilist Isaac Bitton died aged 61. Bitton was of Jewish heritage born in Holland in 1777. He was trained by Dan Mendoza & 1st entered the Prize Ring in 1801 (2wins1draw). He retired in 1804 & set up Goulston Street Athletics School in Whitechapel.

The Fly (Rigging) System in the Olympic Theatre was made from the Masts of the French Warship ‘Ville de Paris’ (1764). The 104 gun Flagship was captured by the British at the 1782 ‘Battle of the Saintes’ during the American Revolutionary War.

Ramo Samee came to England around 1812 in a troupe of Indian Jugglers & Magicians recruited by Capt Campbell of the East India Company. It was the first time such performers had been seen in London & their skills were superior to any previously displayed.
12Jan1821 Harry Holt & Jack Randall begin a month long Exhibition of Pugilism at the Olympic Theatre. Their sparring exhibition was initially incorporated into a Pantomime but later became its own distinct display in the ‘Art of Self Defence.’
The Olympic Theatre in London was built in 1806 by Philip Astley for public exhibitions of Horsemanship. Originally named the Olympic Pavilion, Philip Astley sold it to Robert Elliston in 1813 who refurbished it & renamed it the Little Drury Lane.
