An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply.
This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes.
The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.
Kerala is India’s standout State by every indicator of social progress and human development. Dr V. K. Ramachandran, economist and Vice-Chairperson of the Kerala State Planning Board, shows how it presents to the country and the world “a democratic, socially inclusive, participatory, high-growth, and sustainable alternative development policy” — and, I would add, model — over the past decade.

I don’t want to connect my coffee machine to the wifi network. I don’t want to share the file with OneDrive. I don’t want to download an app to check my car’s fluid levels. I don’t want to scan a QR code to view the restaurant menu. I don’t want to let Google know my location before showing me the search results. I don’t want to include a Teams link on the calendar invite. I don’t want to pay 50 different monthly subscription fees for all my software. I don’t want to upgrade to TurboTax platinum plus audit protection. I don’t want to install the Webex plugin to join the meeting. I don’t want to share my car’s braking data with the actuaries at State Farm. I don’t want to text with your AI chatbot. I don’t want to download the Instagram app to look at your picture. I don’t want to type in my email address to view the content on your company’s website. I don’t want text messages with promo codes. I don’t want to leave your company a five-star Google review in exchange for the chance to win a $20 Starbucks gift card. I don’t want to join your exclusive community in the metaverse. I don’t want AI to help me write my comments on LinkedIn. I don’t even want to be on LinkedIn in the first place.
I just want to pay for a product one time (and only one time), know that it’s going to work flawlessly, press 0 to speak to an operator if I need help, and otherwise be left alone and treated with some small measure of human dignity, if that’s not too much to ask anymore.
Umar Khalid surrendered to Tihar today after interim bail of 7 days to attend cousin's marriage. Look at his brave smile. This regime could not take this away from him.
Professor Amiya Bagchi (1936-2024) was one of India's most distinguished economic historians and public intellectuals.
We send our deepest condolences to his family.
Here is our tribute to him: https://t.co/Nix2SuJE4i
What will it take for a Finance Commission to eliminate vertical fiscal imbalance in Indian federalism? R. Mohan and I estimate that the Union government must devolve to the States about 49% of the central taxes -- in place of the present 41%. In today's The Hindu @the_hindu
HOW "BEST AVAILABLE SCIENCE" MAKES IT ALONGSIDE YOUR MORNING COFFEE AS NEW CLIMATE POLICY..
A classic example of how climate-scenarios-based "science" leads to so-called "policy analysis" that feeds the global North narrative.
At lightning speed by 16th August @CarbonBrief has a comment out on a paper that has just been published on 12th August (see here for paper https://t.co/wIUX5KyjEr).
At 1 am last night, 3 of us sat in an auto-rickshaw to return to our temporary apartment in Mumbai. It was a short drive, and midway through the drive, the auto-rickshaw driver started telling us how he had just been slapped by the police. On inquiring as to what had happened, he told us that someone had misbehaved with him in a drunken state, and he'd taken him to the police station in order to file a complaint. The police slapped the inebriated person twice and asked him to go away. When this auto-rickshaw driver insisted that he wanted to lodge a complaint, the police slapped him two times as well, and asked him to go away.
By this time, we had reached the gates of our apartment. We were standing next to the auto-rickshaw, listening to him feeling extremely hurt. He even mentioned that that is how people commit suicide, when they find no outlet for what they are feeling. As he was saying this, a woman holding a baby by her side started walking towards us, hurling expletives at the auto-rickshaw driver, asking him to go away. The chat we were having at the gates of the apartment had woken up her baby as they were sleeping on the nearby pavement. She was upset, that the baby had finally slept, and we had disturbed them. We tried to tell her what the auto-rickshaw driver had gone through. She lowered her voice, and at that moment, the driver started his auto-rickshaw, and 3 of us walked into the apartment complex mostly in silence, while remarking that it was Independence Day today.
Dear Vinesh, It is said that sport is a celebration of human will. I have known that to be true many times in my career but never has it resonated more than today. As I look around me, I see a nation and its people celebrate your unyielding resolve.
You are a fighter – on and off the mat. Through you, we are learning what it means to never lose the fight in us, even as a loss weighs heavily. You embody the true spirit of a warrior.
Not all victories look alike. Some end up as a glittering souvenir in a cabinet but the ones that matter more find their way into the stories we tell our children. And every child in this country will know the champion you are. Every child will grow up wanting to face life with the resilience you have displayed. I thank you for that.
Respect,
Abhinav Bindra

Vinesh Phogat will finish last in the women's 50kg category at the Olympics after failing to make weight by less than a 100 grams.
Cuba’s Yuznelys Guzman will wrestle in the Olympic final. Oksana Livach and Yui Susaki will wrestle for the Olympic bronze. Every one of them was beaten by Vinesh Phogat.
In the end, the only one able who could beat Vinesh Phogat in Paris was Vinesh Phogat.

Couldn't agree more.
We need the old, 'boring' thousands of rows of primary unit-level data rather than forced fancy dashboards that are nothing but a manifestation of consultancy culture in our statistical institutions.
