I write as a student of History.
British rule and the present dispensation share the same reflex when the things become inconvenient.
Trains cancelled so people can’t reach Delhi.
Metro stations shut.
Thousands of paramilitary forces deployed.
Multi-layered barricades turning the city into a fortress.
Internet restricted in central areas.
And a judiciary that calmly observes that no permission means unlawful protest, prosecution possible.
Citizens treated as subjects .
Under the Raj, the colonial state used exactly these tools , troop deployments, movement restrictions, physical cordons, and cooperative courts , to keep people from gathering and embarrassing the regime. The language has changed (“public order,” “congestion,” “security”), the uniforms are Indian, and elections still happen, but the operational method remains familiar.
When citizens demand accountability from the Election Commission, lock down the capital and let the courts provide the legal cover. A republic that needs 25,000 plus armed personnel, cancelled trains, and closed metro gates to manage a protest isn’t projecting strength. It’s revealing how little trust it has in its own democratic processes.
Colonial rule lacked popular sovereignty and so it seems the present dispensation. Constitutional rights do formally exist today but highlights the operational similarities in crowd and movement control .
Colonial methods. Desi packaging.
🚨IMPORTANT UPDATE🚨
I am in detention. The movement is not.
People are assembling at SAFDARJUNG FLYOVER right now. If you can, reach.
If you are stopped, sit down where you are and hold the line.

Dhruv Rathee Addresses Anti-SIR Rally in Bengaluru, Demands ECI Accountability on Voter Rolls
Bengaluru
Addressing a gathering at Freedom Park in #Bengaluru against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise,Youtuber #DhruvRathee launched a direct attack on the #ElectionCommission of India and the Central government, accusing them of systemic irregularities, arbitrary voter roll manipulation, and operating with zero transparency or accountability.
Dismissing claims by political opponents that he was attempting to engineer a regime change, Dhruv Rathee clarified that he traveled on his own money without backing from figures like #ElonMusk or #GeorgeSoros, and urged even ruling-party supporters to closely scrutinize the electoral process.
To substantiate his allegations of administrative opacity, Dhruv Rathee directed demands for accountability to Chief Election Commissioner #GyaneshKumar, Prime Minister #NarendraModi, and Union Home Minister #AmitShah, citing specific regional examples. In #WestBengal, he claimed roughly 70,000 legitimate voters were struck from rolls before assembly polls under the pretense of being deceased or foreign infiltrators, only to be reinstated once voting had concluded. Regarding #Bihar, he raised the deletion of nearly 6.5 million names, asserting that voter identities were hidden until the Supreme Court intervened. In #UttarPradesh, he cited reporting by The Reporters' Collective regarding the unexplained addition of around 1.4 million names without public disclosure of who was enrolled, while also noting software-related exclusions in #Goa that blocked over 100 eligible voters.
Concluding his address to the assembled crowd,Dhruv Rathee maintained that voter additions and deletions are being executed arbitrarily at administrative whim, entirely devoid of independent oversight.

INTERESTING: when Team Anna hit the streets in 2011 (with the RSS also providing support), few called the protests ‘anarchic’. Now when Rahul Gandhi and the opposition do it, the same forces who hailed the Anna Andolan , now use the word ‘anarchy’ routinely. Then the BJP was in opposition and Cong in power, now roles reversed. Guess where you stand in Indian politics depends on where you sit, no?! 🙏
