@Redeset2@BillTheKid1603 HRE got founded by a German king (Otto the Great) and has always been ruled by German kings or emperors (elected by German electors). How do you know that Alsace has always been against being part of Germany? There has never been a referendum about it!
@BillTheKid1603 The people of Alsace Lorraine never got asked. They were mainly German speaking and actually I doubt they would have voted for France. Especially Alsace has always been part of Germany ( HRE) before France annexed it in the 17th century.
@totally_not_ace@MartinDaniel100@EraShy072 Only a small percentage of Alsatians voted for secessionist parties before WW1. And people are always opportunist and prefer to be on the side of the winners ( especially when they have no choice!)
@ChesFenDemCo@BillTheKid1603 What you claim isn't true. Please ask AI. Britain also blocked imports from neutral countries to NL , Denmark etc as soon as they thought that it could be sold to Germany afterwards. As a consequence even these neutral European countries suffered from a shortage of food.
@PaleoWenus@W_Kononczuk You will always be more dependent on your neighbours: politically and economically! European countries acting against each other like in the first half of the 20th century will always harm all of them. Even neutral countries like Sweden or CH lost against USA or Argentina
@PaleoWenus@W_Kononczuk Compare that with Ukraine which still had a higher GDP than Poland in 1990, but now Poland has multiple GDp of Ukraine and peace. Why are you still so negative despite all of that?
@PaleoWenus@W_Kononczuk It should be your goal to live in peace and cooperation with your neighbours, because they will also stay there in the future. Don't know how you can be so bitter against Germany after it assisted you in becoming EU member and have huge economic growth rates year by year
@PaleoWenus@W_Kononczuk Europeans fighting each other instead of cooperating will only benefit other continents like in the world wars again. I cannot understand how that can be in your interest!
@BillTheKid1603@auvrelian@The_Clermontian The Global consensus follows the global propaganda. In contrast to the UK the Central powers didn't have much power to influence American media etc.
@Gynephila@LemurianP4triQt That's no big surprise for me because many people are opportunists. They have been in favor of Germany when it has been sexy and changed mind when it became unsexy. A similar shift happened in many places like Sweden, Switzerland, Romania etc.

@MakeUSAVAT@atlanticesque@SidKhurana3607 That's less satirical than it sounds. Especially during WW1 German Americans suffered quite some reprisals. That's a main reason why the German language and heritage got lost so quickly in comparison to other American communities.
