@vintagemapstore I'm always amazed that modern day Scandinavia and Ukraine/Russia were seemingly unknown despite being relatively close by. I'm assuming it was a matter of local tribes being extremely unwelcoming to traders, but still surprising given the later trade routes along the Volga river.
@BrilliantMaps It helps explains how much easier it would have been for humans to cross the Sahara back then - I wonder how many significant archeological remains are buried in those sands. Presumably there would have been significant trade with Egypt?

@TodayinHistory It always amazes me how many people died building it in awful winter conditions - 30,000 seems to be the generally held estimate - all that beauty came at a heavy price!

USA dominated, but the stories behind Germany, USSR, and Japan are fascinating, particularly given the scale of strategic bombing!
