Joachim Hirsch (b. 13 May 1937 in Breslau, Germany) was murdered in a gas chamber of the Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp on 6 October 1944.

He was 7 years old.

To celebrate Elizabeth Fry’s birthday (b. 1780) here’s a wonderful engraving by William Darton from our collection. Elizabeth Fry was born in Norwich, just off Magdalen Street, and spent her life campaigning for prison reform and the rehabilitation of prisoners. #WomenInCulture
