Great news: @BLMNational has finalized its management plan for Northwest California.
The update adds protections for over 68,000 acres and 147.2 miles of streams and rivers.
How it makes a difference in addressing our changing climate. 👇
Over 100 Tribes have maintained California’s lands, waters, and wildlife for thousands of years.
Now, as the state faces increasing climate change effects, a new law will help to ensure Indigenous knowledge is part of future conservation efforts. https://t.co/OEtpZ8CqrI
Breaking: A $10 billion climate resilience proposal is one step closer to reality in California.
The move would bolster flood and wildfire protection while increasing access to nature and clean drinking water. https://t.co/VxkCgbc7UC
Breaking: @BLMNational announced its decision to maintain protections on 28 million acres of Alaska lands and watersheds.
These lands are:
✅Homelands for over 100 Alaska Tribes

Progress: Today, in New Mexico, @WHCEQ Chair @BrendaMallory46 announced over 50 new commitments to the America the Beautiful Freshwater Challenge.
The challenge aims to protect, restore, and reconnect 8 million acres of wetlands and 100,000 river miles by 2030.
Small business owner Renee Patrick tells @PNS_OR she wants @BLMOregon to protect lands in the Lakeview area for their "recreation and sagebrush steppe habitat," & dark skies. As the daughter of an avid astronomer, I can appreciate that! #BLMWild https://t.co/N8H5nhtbcb
Historically, @BLMNational has prioritized oil and gas development over conservation.
But that could soon change.
Today, the agency finalized a rule that enables it to put conservation on equal footing across the 245 million acres it oversees. https://t.co/CiZjjvCmQi
A new direction for @BLMNational will promote healthy communities in the West and protect wildlife, watersheds, and cultural resources. Say thanks for this bold, balanced vision for the nation’s largest land management agency. 👏🏽👏🏼👏🏻#ActNowForPublicLands https://t.co/EFCMmkWqYp

Fact: One million of Earth’s 8 million plant and animal species face extinction.
In the U.S.—one of 17 nations worldwide identified as “megadiverse”—a holistic conservation approach is vital for our future. https://t.co/asD6EPMoHv
Forests cover ~27 million acres of California, but @BLMNational hasn’t updated some management plans since the mid-90s.
Incorporating all we’ve learned about climate change and biodiversity into new plans would help the economy and climate. https://t.co/IYQCTCEw7j
California is home to some of the country’s most diverse public lands, and the state has made significant strides in conserving these beautiful places. This is a helpful look at conservation strategies that can protect the future of these lands and rivers. https://t.co/05vfZiJqPz
“[The South Atlantic Salt Marsh Initiative] gives me hope that we can meet the challenges of our day—chief of them is sea level rise. If we don’t take action for salt marshes, we may not have them [in the future].” —Our @Coastal_Cam 👉https://t.co/RRH89YkIZ1
Though small in size, coastal habitats such as forested tidal swamps and coastal wetlands can store carbon at much greater rates than other forests.
Now, a new law in Oregon will help protect them. https://t.co/NPK2crsoX8
As our climate changes, the approach to supporting the health and sustainability of America’s national forests must also shift. Data from my @pewtrusts colleagues and Conservation Science Partners can inform science-based decisions for the @forestservice. https://t.co/2ltEY4gq3A
