@edinburghcounc @edinhelp this is the inside of our food waste bin on Kings Road, Portobello. There’s no lid, no signs, no information.
It’s like this every week.
Food waste is one of the biggest contributors to climate change in Scotland.
Surely this could be done better?
@Edinburgh_CC@portobellocc Not sure who best directed to - Boathouse Bar & Grill have just “cleaned up” their 12ft Christmas tree (lying in Kings Place since Jan) by dumping it on Portobello beach. Not sure if this counts as #flytipping, but certainly not responsible disposal
What is life like at the cold edge of the galactic plane of global trait space?
What does that even mean??

Do the 'global rules' governing a plant's form and function apply in one of the most extreme environments on the planet?
From a thought experiment to an international synthesis, we test trait relationships in the cold extremes of the tundra biome.
Thanks to all involved!
I always dreamed of seeing @TeamShrub research covered in @WIRED and today it happened!!! Read about our recent team paper on Arctic greening lead by @IslaHMS and @JTKerby and supported by @InsideNatGeo. Thanks @WIREDScience for covering our research!

Our paper on Arctic Greening Complexity - now published in @NatureClimate
Embracing multi-scale science to better understand earth's broadest biological signal of climate change.
Epitome of a collaborative effort: 40 authors across 36 institutions!!

“Tundra plants act as a barrier between the warming atmosphere and huge stocks of carbon stored in frozen ground.
Changes in vegetation ... could significantly impact efforts to keep warming below 1.5 degrees”

From space, satellites show a much greener Arctic than in decades past. On the ground, as the Arctic warms, plants are leafing out earlier, growing taller and expanding in cover. But, the greening seen from space doesn't always match change on the ground.
