The US has finally removed the unilateral sanctions on Eritrea today.

Congratulations to the people and Government of #Eritrea for their steadfastness, resilience, and principled approach that made this development a reality.

The unilateral sanctions imposed on Eritrea by the Biden Administration in 2021 were unwarranted and caused undue damage on Eritrea. Now that they have been removed, we welcome this positive gesture and corrective measures taken by the Trump Administration.

Today’s move by the US should mark the beginning of a new chapter in the Eritrea-US relations, that we envision to be grounded in #sovereign respect, mutual interests, and the pursuit of a mutually beneficial #partnership. 🇪🇷🇺🇸

Potemkin Party (PP) senior officials seem to have contracted a severe case of historical amnesia.

In a bizarre and rather amusing announcement to the "House of Representatives" this week, the PP's leader stated that "he had scoured every archive in Addis Abeba - the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cabinet minutes, and parliamentary records - yet found no official record or institutional decision how Ethiopia lost access to the Red Sea".

Hopefully, this debilitating disease is at its incipient or early phase.

* Indeed, only seven years ago, on 9 July 2018 and accompanied by senior officials of his regime including the then Foreign Minister and now Secretary General of IGAD, he had signed in Asmara the Joint Declaration of Peace and Friendship between Eritrea and Ethiopia. The kernel and cardinal content of this Agreement revolved on the "implementation of the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission (EEBC) decision", which affirmed Eritrea's internationally recognized boundary for more than a century in accordance with the Treaties of 1900, 1902 and 1908.

* In another moment of truth in those times, Ethiopia's Army Chief of Staff confessed that "he and his colleagues were embarrassed in May 1998 when the incumbent government publicly accused Eritrea of aggression while it was the Ethiopian army which actually unleashed the war in the first place ". Today, he seems to be infected by this collective amnesia as he tries to justify his incessant saber-rattling and agenda of war on spurious pretexts in contravention of international law and Eritrea's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

*Similarly, another PP General, Bacha Debele, confessed, three years ago, about the disastrous defeat that the Ethiopian army contingent had suffered - in his graphic words "ተጨፈጨፍን/we were completely annihilated " - on the Bure Front when it attempted to occupy Assab in June 2000. Apparently infected by the same historical amnesia, this retired General has joined the chorus to clamour for another cycle of irredentist war of aggression against Eritrea in order to occupy Assab.

The incipient, even if already severe, disease of collective amnesia that has gripped the tight circle of senior Potemkin Party officials will need proper therapy: History 101. Link below is the Introductory Chapter I.

The whole syllabus will of course consist of: the denial of Eritrea's right to decolonization in the 1940s; annexation and the armed struggle; all the way back to medieval and ancient history with objective archeological findings and interpretations.

President Isaias Afwerki and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi Meet and Hold Talks

President Isaias Afwerki and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held extensive talks in Cairo today, in the early afternoon hours, on the further consolidation of bilateral ties between the two countries as well as on regional issues of mutual interest.

The two Heads of State underlined the historical ties between Eritrea and Egypt, assessed the status and progress of previous multi-layered agreements, and discussed ways and means of further strengthening bilateral cooperation and partnership in various sectors.

President Isaias and President el-Sisi also discussed in greater detail regional developments and trends, particularly the situations in Sudan and Somalia, and the security of the Red Sea.

The two leaders agreed to work vigorously and coordinate their efforts to promote their shared conviction on the inviolability of territorial integrity, as well as the stability and peace of the countries in the region.

President Isaias reiterated Eritrea’s firm solidarity with the people of Sudan in these trying times and its unwavering stance on Sudan’s territorial integrity. He further underlined that external intervention can only exacerbate the conflict without yielding positive results.

President el-Sisi, for his part, reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to play its role in promoting peace and stability in Sudan, Somalia, and the Red Sea region. In this regard, he emphasized the imperative for all littoral states to marshal their resources and coordinate their efforts to ensure the peace and security of the Red Sea and to benefit from its resources.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Osman Saleh, Eritrea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
President Isaias Afwerki departed for Egypt in the mid-morning hours today for a five-day working visit at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. During the visit, President Isaias and his delegation will also participate in the inauguration of the new Egyptian Grand Museum on 1 November.

The Presidential delegation includes Foreign Minister Osman Saleh.

Upon arrival at Cairo International Airport, President Isaias Afwerki and his delegation were accorded a warm welcome.

Abiy Ahmed has developed a strange habit of ordering and dispatching unsolicited goods to #Eritrea — without any consultation or coordination with #Eritrean authorities.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he famously sent a plane full of face masks to Eritrea out of the blue. No one in Eritrea had requested or even been informed about it. The response? The aircraft was promptly returned — and understandably, with bewilderment.

Now, in his latest parliamentary spectacle, Abiy revealed that he had once again ordered unwanted Generators to be sent to Eritrea, again without Eritrea’s knowledge or consent. And once more, the goods were sent straight back to where they came from.

One has to ask — what kind of leader takes it upon himself to place orders for another sovereign nation without consultation?

That’s not diplomacy. That’s delusion. A man clearly confused about the limits of his own job description.
