@zcichy Nice. I set up a Plex server in the same way, but on a raspberry pi, to work as my personal cloud music library.

I actually use rclone to mount a private B2 bucket with the files hosted there. I like having full control without paying a subscription. (just B2 storage)

@theblackvault Thanks for the shout out, John! It was a fun project to figure out. Your OCR'd documents made it much easier for me to align some of the new releases with the previous ones.

Hard to say if or when the Archives will finalize the releases. There could be other documents but I'm not actually sure what would be on that list, or how to make that list.

@daylightpublic Glad you found it useful! If you're talking about OCR for cursive.. yeah that's tough to automate.

The next thing I'm going to try is using AI to OCR and get good searchable text for each page. But cursive will probably still be a manual job.... for now.

I'm thinking about building a tool... that will absolutely exist eventually - but I know how I can make it work now.

It's taking human elements out of a creative process though and that makes me uneasy.

Calling the idea that AI will improve "religious" seems incredibly reductive.

Consider the past 65 years of technical innovation.

I may not know what AI will look like in 20 yrs but I think it will be better. Call it faith. Or call it common sense.

The idea that it will "keep getting better" is a religious one. 1) you don't know that, 2) you don't know *why* it might (or might not) get better, 3) what if it doesn't, 4) what areas might improve, which ones may not? Critical thinking is required, not blind faith.

@JasonColavito I feel like it could make sense... The 50% includes individuals from either side of the 20% stat. So a married couple making 30k / 80k would end up in the 80% under 100k & the 50% over 100k.

Also I think the 20% stat includes all adults, even 0 income, dragging the % down

Ok, mystery may be solved. In another document "QOC International Commercial" (previously redacted) is defined as a SIGINT series, so the subtle difference above may be the letter is referencing the series ID (which NSA wanted kept secret) versus a more general "subject" context.

The things that remained redacted until recently are utterly baffling to me sometimes.

"International Commercial Traffic passing" was redacted in 2022, yet those exact words were on the ID Form in 2022 unredacted. Oversight? Out of context? Who knows.

I don't want Austria to feel singled out. The NSA was also hoping no one would see they were intercepting diplomatic communications of Italy, Mexico, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, Turkey, France, Hungary, Zaire, Brazil, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Belgium.... probably others.

Sorry Austria - looks like your diplomatic messages to the Austrian Embassy in DC were being intercepted by the NSA in 1963.

The NSA apparently wanted to keep that secret as late as 2022, and only removed the redactions this year.

And yeah TV spots are still important - it's just they used to be REALLY important. I don't know that anything has properly filled the gap; they're trying.

@zcichy @MusicAndTruth Yeah. Such a deep topic but part of the problem is studios relied on TV spots heavily to sell films. And more & more folks don't watch cable or commercials. And streaming services aren't great for advertising theatrical.

A lot of factors and the industry is slooow to react.

@MusicAndTruth @zcichy I'm a trailer editor so I love 'em but, AMC is almost 30 min of trailers... that's a lot. People already show late to skip them.

IMO the only way to save theatrical is to make the experience worthwhile. If theaters invest in quality experiences more would go. But that costs $..

@zcichy Best case scenario is deals happen, Trump backs down on tariffs in response, and the market rebounds. We move on with our lives.

Not sure that will happen though because that's not the message the administration is sending. The end goals sound more long term.

@zcichy I heard a radio host argue tariffs would lead to Apple opening plants in the US, & selling phones for a lower margin.

That it'll be good for Apple & economy b/c workers will spend money from their higher paying jobs🤔

Seems like fantasy to me, and a long way off if it were true
