Saw a patient today with a hemoglobin of 1.9 g/dL. For context, a level that low is almost incompatible with normal consciousness, but she walked right into the clinic on her own feet.

For three long years, she lived with crushing weakness and since last 6 months breathlessness from just walking across a room. Why didn’t she get help sooner? At first, it was because the kids had crucial school exams and later her husband was reluctant to deal with the hassle of a hospital admission.

Her health was treated as a background inconvenience.
When we dug deeper, it got worse. A year ago, her Hb was 6.4 g/dL. A doctor explicitly told them she needed immediate admission. The family refused, walked out with a basic strip of iron tablets, she took them for two weeks, forgot about them, and nobody in the house ever bothered to check on her or remind her.

She didn't even come to the hospital today because of the air hunger. She came because her periods had completely stopped for months. Her body was so profoundly starved of iron and oxygen that it literally shut down her reproductive axis just to divert what little blood she had left to her heart and brain.

It’s completely heartbreaking. A woman will literally bleed her body dry, gasp for air for years and keep working silently, only to be brought to a doctor when her normal functioning stops.

Please check on the women in your homes. Stop letting them normalize chronic exhaustion.

This plant is called the Moroccan Mint, also known as Mentha spicata.

I have planted it in my flower bed even though it grows wildly.

The leaves have a powerful stinging mint flavour that leaves your mouth with a minty taste and fresh breath.

The plant is medicinal especially in the treatment of mouth sores, sore throat, bad breath, and gum bleeding.

The poultry also love pecking these leaves, especially when they suffer from a common cold, and in 3 days, they are up and about.

It is amazing how nature gave us everything.

Avoid mouthwash and fluoride.

If it is Yes, continue.

If it is NO, drop it.

Focus on acquiring knowledge and skills that solve human problems around survival instincts,

• Food

• Clothing

• Shelter

• Reproduction

• Security, safety and protection

Human beings are scared by problems that threaten their survival.

Therefore,

• Food: Nutrition, Agriculture, Medicine. Humans must eat, and food can promote or threaten their survival.

• Clothing: Fashion and design, textile, footwear, image and branding. The textile industry is one of the oldest, and it will be here forever.

• Shelter: Building and construction. Masonry, Plumbing, Electricals, Roofing, Sanitation, Painting etc.

• Reproduction: Any skill that offers a solution to sexual health, pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, and child care.

• Security, Safety and protection: Advancement of humanity, knowledge management, the use of technology to fix problems, Police Officers, Military.

These are the basic human needs.

Once you earn a skill that promises to promote these needs, you become a person of value.

If I forgot something, you can add, but before you add, find out if it is in the hierarchy of human needs.

This Easter Sunday, I had the pleasure and honour of joining the faithful at Deliverance Church Lang’ata for a deeply moving and spiritually uplifting service.

It was a true blessing to listen to my old friend, Dr Jonathan Hansen, a distinguished servant of God whose ministry continues to impact nations across the world. His message was both timely and powerful, calling on us, not just as individuals, but as a nation, to embrace repentance and turn back to God.

The word of the day reminded us that true transformation begins with humility, reflection, and a willingness to correct our ways. As a people, we must return to the values that define us, integrity, justice, compassion, and reverence for God. For it is only through sincere repentance and a collective turning back to God that we can restore hope, rebuild trust, and secure a better future for generations to come.

On this sacred day, we boldly proclaim the foundation of our faith, that He is risen. A powerful reminder that no matter the season, renewal is always possible, and redemption is within reach.

I extend my sincere gratitude to Bishop Dr Geoffrey K. Njuguna for the warm welcome and for hosting such a spirit filled service.

May this Easter season awaken our conscience as a nation and guide us back to the path of righteousness, unity, and purpose.
