RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat says, “If any Hindu thinks that there should be no Muslim in Bharat, he will not remain Hindu.”
This is the oldest trick in the RSS playbook: some words are for the world, and some are for its own members. The RSS has never disavowed its key thinkers and writers. What do they say about Muslims and other minorities?
1. It is well known that the RSS did not contribute to our freedom struggle. Its founder, Hedgewar, was in the Indian National Congress but left it because he was against all religious communities joining the anti-British freedom struggle led by Gandhi. A biography of Hedgewar published by the RSS describes how he parted with the INC because “Gandhiji worked constantly with one eye on Hindu–Muslim unity… But Doctorji sensed danger in that move. In fact, he did not even relish the newfangled slogan of ‘Hindu–Muslim Unity’.” [Seshadri, H. V. (ed.), Dr. Hedgewar, the Epoch-Maker: A Biography, Sahitya Sindhu, Bangalore, 1981, p. 61.]
2. The RSS opposes democracy and has consistently demanded a dictatorship. Golwalkar, in 1940, declared, “RSS inspired by one flag [saffron], one leader and one ideology.” [M. S. Golwalkar, Shri Guruji Samagra Darshan (collected works of Golwalkar in Hindi), Bhartiya Vichar Sadhna, Nagpur, n.d., Volume I, p. 11.]
3. Should we forget what happened to the Muslims of Gujarat under the RSS’s proxy rule? “Daughters were gang-raped in front of their fathers and then had their heads bashed in. Their fathers were doused with petrol and set on fire. Their property was looted. Their businesses were destroyed. And the police stood by and did nothing.” [Hindustan Times, New Delhi, March 21, 2002.]
4. For the RSS, Indian Muslims and Christians are ‘internal threats’ number one and two, respectively.
5. Golwalkar’s Bunch of Thoughts has a long chapter titled ‘Internal Threats’, in which Muslim and Christian citizens of India are described as threats number one and two, respectively. Golwalkar says that Muslim citizens should be treated with perpetual suspicion.
6. Of Christians, Golwalkar says that the community is “out to demolish not only the religious and social fabric of our life”. [Ibid., p. 193.]
7. It is under the RSS’s ideology that Muslims are being subjected to Hindu law in the name of the UCC. Christians are being targeted in the name of draconian “anti-conversion” laws. Not to forget the severe abuse of laws such as the UAPA.
My request to Bhagwat is that he should just recite choice extracts from the poisonous works of Savarkar, Hedgewar, Golwalkar, etc. Let people decide what they make of the RSS.
The conduct displayed by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, publicly pulling at a Muslim woman’s burqa, is indefensible and deeply disturbing.
He owes the woman and the public an unconditional apology.
This erratic conduct is alarming and points to a man who no longer possesses the composure or mental clarity required for constitutional office. Seeking medical attention and stepping aside is necessary.
The Public Safety Act, 1978 (PSA) was introduced by Sheikh Abdullah in 1978 to deal with smuggling. Farooq Abdullah, G. M. Shah,Mufti Sayeed, GN Azad, Omar Abdullah & Mehbooba Mufti have all been CMs of J&K. They could have easily repealed PSA & prevented untold suffering and human rights violations.
The law has been misused by virtually every elected CM & unelected Governors. Over 20,000 people have been jailed since 1978 without criminal charges, fair trials or even a proper appeals process.
Some detentions were extended for up to 7-12 years. One separatist was detained under the PSA and, when he was later needed, he was served with a court warrant and granted bail. Now there is a truncated elected govt, and it has dawned on it to do away with the PSA.
Sab kuch luta ke hosh mein aaye to kya kiya
Din mein agar chiragh jalaye to kya kiya
Jio and airtel have silently dropped their basic 1GB/day 4G data plans. Now, their basic 4G data plan costs around ₹300 a month.
They've also deliberately slowed down 4G internet speeds just for pushing people to switch to 5G and pay even more.
So poor people have only two choices, either pay ₹300/month for 4G speeds that feel like 3G now, or recharge with even more expensive 5G internet plans.
Even if someone in rural India does not use the internet much, they still have to pay ₹300/month just to make basic calls.
If you don't recharge, you lose incoming calls and messages within a week, and if it continues for a few months, your SIM is deactivated & your mobile number is sold to someone else.
It's alarming considering that 60% of Indians earn less than ₹10,000/month. The Modi government has handed the telecom market to just two companies, giving them unchecked power to decide how much Indians must pay for basic connectivity.
“Participating in such meetings (Palestine solidarity protest) is the duty of artists like me. If our fame does not serve the cause of humanity and freedom, then there is no use being popular actors.”

“Today, for the injustice happening to Palestine, Israel alone is not responsible. America is responsible. Modi’s silence is responsible too.”

🇵🇸 This year marks the 77th anniversary of the #Nakba - "catastrophe" in #Arabic - which refers to the flight and expulsion of an estimated 700,000 #Palestinians during the creation of the State of Israel in 1948
