@DevinCow It’s not always about you. People don’t do thing TO YOU. People just DO THINGS. Learning not to take things personally is the key to a happy life.
@cgraw1 Cuz there was a time when it WAS the only solution offered out there. Read the book “Not God” about the history of AA, it’s fascinating. Think AA’ers have just kept repeating that line about it being the only show in town, not realizing we have treatments and therapies now.
@Theholisticpsyc Being hyper-vigilante was a coping mechanism that kept us safe and alive in childhood- we can congratulate ourselves for that. We stayed alive! Yay! But it no longer serves us. Time to let that coping mechanism go and replace it with self care/love. Remind yourself: I’m safe. ❤️
@Nelba_MG When I tell Christian people I’m in long term recovery from alcohol and drugs they say the oddest things- how I must have a purpose and god has a plan, blah blah. But what about the dozens of folks I’ve seen die from addiction? They weren’t special enuf? God didn’t care?
Now that we’re all aware of the severity of the Court’s self-imposed ethics crisis, let’s solve the problem. My Supreme Court Ethics Recusal and Transparency (SCERT) Act would create real ethical guardrails at the Supreme Court. https://t.co/bEIf4EuGnZ
@amyfaithho@AmerMedicalAssn@SenatorLankford@JackResneckMD@FTC @DOJPH And offer addicts initial medication management (suboxone, etc) and an easy bridge to longer term access when they show up in the ER struggling with withdrawals. Get treatment started right then and there if possible.Try not to send an addict home to figure it all out themselves
Yeah, my mom and dad's interracial marriage was illegal until I was a year old and then--later--they struggled to buy a home in their Long Island community because people didn't want to sell to a Black lady. Good times!
Good news for economy class air travelers:
When boarding, if you see an empty seat in first class, you can now take it because, according to a Supreme Court justice, if it’s empty, it’s free.
@DBelardoMD My grandfather lived to 100 and never missed his morning eggs and bacon or desert. He claimed “all things in moderation except for alcohol- no alcohol!”
She’s 18. She got accepted to several universities. She picked Morgan State to study mechanical engineering. She vanished last Monday, June 5th. She’s now missed her prom. She missed her Motivation High School graduation Friday. Her name is Shalayla Porter. 1/2
@MandyMatney Jill Duggar is the bravest women ever. How hard it must have been for her to be the solo family member participating and telling the whole truth.
@KillerMartinis@retired_in_tx I would tell them to look into their county’s resources to connect with a Peer Support Specialist. These are counselors with lived experience. You can check your local social services agency. They have a lot diverse experience and can share in a way therapists can’t.
@KillerMartinis@retired_in_tx And to let the guilt go that “you’ll use or drink again without it.” Because I never stay clean/sober when I tried to devote the time and attention to AA I was expected to. When I embraced Buddhism and therapy and doing the steps with a (trauma) therapist, everything changed.
@KillerMartinis@retired_in_tx I would tell them it’s ok to get clean and sober without sitting in a 12-step group every week. But you have to have a support network and a way to stay accountable. Do the steps with a therapist! There are new medications out, new therapies, western medicine- stay open minded!
