The VIFM was pleased to welcome Dr Simon Walsh to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the Australian Federal Police and the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine. This continues our strong forensic Academic & Operational partnership both nationally and internationally
We are sad to inform you that Prof. Tom Marshall CBE recently passed away. He was the 8th IAFS President (1969-72) and had a very distinguished career including being State Pathologist for Northern Ireland and establishing the Northern Ireland Coroners autopsy service. Vale Tom!
Can CT replace or supplement autopsy?
👉"Ideally, all forensic pathologists would have access to CT and radiology support. This would allow a flexible approach that meets the diagnostic needs of each case and best serves decedents' families and others."

@HelenP57765263 @drjudymelinek But the Pims would have to have orange slices and lots of cucumber and preferably made with ginger ale rather than lemonade…Ahhhh (how’s things Helen?)

@drjudymelinek @The_dead_letter Prof Knight used to propose ‘senile myocardial degeneration’ as a deliberate mumbo-jumble to get past those who objected to ‘old age’
@drjudymelinek I very much doubt if there would be any need for involvement of the Coroner since her treating physicians would likely be able to complete the relevant certificate etc. Interestingly there is a Coroner with a special jurisdiction for the Royal Palaces (or there used to be)!
@CanadianForMed The NCIS (National Coroners Information System) is a great public health research tool but its real advantage comes when you integrate data searches in the processes used in real time day to day investigations - which allows intelligence led investigations.
@CatrionaMckenz5@PathologyRCPA@KMirza@TristanRutland7@EducationKathyr What a great talk - Kamran was truely inspiring. Now, as he suggested, I must write about my online using creative exercises in the teaching of forensic medicine and medical law. - Forensic work is a classic example of pathology in action for social good.
