Virgil Finlay (1914–1971) was one of the great illustrators of the golden age of pulp magazines focused on science fiction, fantasy, and horror. He was born in Rochester, New York, and became famous for his extremely detailed drawings made with ink, stippling, cross-hatching, and scratchboard techniques. ✒️
During his approximately 35-year career, he produced more than 2,600 graphic works, including illustrations for pulp magazines, books, and covers. He won one of the first Hugo Awards in 1953 for interior illustration and was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2012. 🏆
