When Ross Greer was still in short trousers, home educators were resisting the authoritarian Scottish state. Those most vociferously opposed to #homeed are primarily #rentseeking#vestedinterests, and schools are now failing even more alarmingly than my commentary from 2001.

Late-stage anti-home ed amendments to the Education Bill (sneaked in stealthily with zero consultation, causing fear and alarm to our community) may now have been withdrawn, but it's clear grandstanding Greens don't want any child to escape state indoctrination. #homeeduphobia
Today I spoke during the Second Reading of the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill in the House of Lords today. It contains vastly authoritarian measures to clamp down on home education under the pretext of safeguarding, but actually will cause great harm (1/5). @LabourList
It's time to pause and reflect on the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, contravenes ECHR Article 14 according to KC Aiden O'Neill.
Read more in the long version of my speech below and repost to your local MP/Peer and Advisors. (5/5)

@bphillipsonMP You know adults won’t accept ID cards, so you’ve gone after the kids. A “Single unique identifier number” for all children. How dare you!
@NancyOSykes They waited until the previous generation of children whose parents who were threatened by this were out of reach and no longer taking an active interest since their offspring were safe, to launch this again. It's ContacPoint 3.0 https://t.co/4CS0Gryh6F @homeedforums
#SQA is the barrier, there are other options for (arguably superior) qualifications. Best to avoid the widely discredited #CfE and data-scraping #GIRFEC.

While we wait for the detail of the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill to be published, we note that the order paper omits some of the more concerning media lines so far.

#SaraSharif was not a hidden child. As in the tragic case of Victoria Climbié, she simply fell through the gaps and was failed by services involved in her life. Concerns had been raised and seemingly not acted upon within a multi agency framework #saveathoughtforthechildren
Reasons for home educating may offer some insight.
Schools are seen as outdated institutions & unsafe spaces that fail to meet needs & penalise parents for prioritising children's health, safety & wellbeing. Enforcing state outcomes at the expense of rights is not education.
Has anyone done any research into *why* families are deciding not to attend school? It seems to me like we need to think about causes before we can think about solutions. Punitive measures are clearly not working to reverse the trend.
@severnaya66@MorrisonBeth @fatbadger442 Nothing has riled me more over the years than listening to crap from 'professionals' at case conferences who don't even know the families they're judging. Govt policy has encouraged power-over relationships, parental disempowerment and toxic #GIRFEC gang culture. #UNCRC anyone?
