If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together. - Lilla Watson, Aboriginal Elder.
Where we are born into privilege, we are charged with dismantling any myth of supremacy. Where we are born into struggle, we are charged with claiming our dignity, joy, and liberation. - Adrienne Maree Brown
The oppressor displays outwardly what is happening internally. Said differently: the corruption on the inside is presented as abuse, manipulation and control. This corruption cannot be undone until first admitting it exists.
Resist. Restore. Redesign. Resist systems of oppression. Restore the the value and dignity of oppressed people. Redesign social, economic and political systems to elevates all folks.
“They taught us to hate ourself”. Oppression is designed to shame, intimidate and cause fear. Race-based wounds deceive us into considering something that isn’t actually true.
We can't talk about oppression without talking about wellness (physical, mental, spiritual). Oppression takes a physical, mental and spiritual toll because it poisons how we view people and life in general.
The influence of oppression gets woven into consciousness early, then supported by external influences. The idea that if it's meant to happen it'll just happen in nonsense. The anti-oppressionist has a responsibility to continually pursue what is promised the next generation.
Simply embracing a philosophy of anti-oppression work isn’t going to fix a problem. Measurable actions lead to positive change which creates lasting influence. #dontbeaperformer.
Oppression is always justifiable by the oppressor. The oppressor doesn’t offer positions of influence to the oppressed because the oppressed will undo systems of oppression then hold the oppressor accountable for creating those systems.
