Still rattled from the incident yesterday on #AmericanAirlines flight 3083 from MCO to LGA where the pilot had to lift back up only seconds after landing in order to “avoid another aircraft” on the runway. Surprised we didn’t make the local news. #AA3083#atc
I am sickened that for 20 years, our foreign policy establishment has allowed the dictatorship of Azerbaijan access to *U.S. weapons* which are now being used to kill Armenian Christians. Now we’re hearing that the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh wasn’t enough & that Azerbaijan won’t stop until they’ve bisected Armenia and opened the Zangezur corridor to Turkey. TRUTH: those waivers would have never been issued without Azerbaijan’s $$ buying lots of lobbying power in D.C. It’s shocking how little attention this has received & the hypocrisy is astounding.
STATEMENT BY THE CHILDREN OF RUBEN VARDANYAN
October 2, 2023.
As the four children of Ruben Vardanyan we respectfully call upon the world leaders, advocates for human rights, and the media to urgent help to free our father from illegal detention in Azerbaijan. We are concerned about his health and arbitrary treatment and have not been able to communicate with him since his capture. We fear for his wellbeing and risk to his life.
Over a year ago, our father made the difficult decision to live with the people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) exactly because he wanted to protect their safety and their rights. He felt so strongly about it that he left everything behind and lived in hardship alongside them under blockade, siege and war.
After the last aggression by the Azerbaijani government on September 19, resulting in mass forced displacement and humanitarian disaster, he was specially singled out and detained.
We do not want him to become yet another victim of the political tension in the region, especially as his mission has always been to reduce this exact same tension and find a peaceful solution to a long-term conflict.
Our father is a humanitarian and has never been involved in any military activities. He co-founded the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, one of the biggest humanitarian foundations, exactly to promote peace and human rights around the world. For this same reason he invested heavily in education and cultural preservation for the region over the past decades, including the restoration of churches and a mosque in Shushi. As an active and visible Armenian humanitarian leader he now finds himself victim of a long-term political conflict and an opaque justice system.
We are extremely worried for his health and we fear for his safety.
We are encouraged by the support of many who have reached out but cannot rest until our father and other Armenian prisoners are released. With every day that goes by the risk that he might never join our family again increases exponentially.
As his children we call upon you to stand for the rights of our father, and all wrongfully detained Armenians and to call for his urgent, safe, and unconditional release. No people should be detained or prosecuted for their beliefs, religion, or nationality. We pray for our father's safe return to us and urgently ask for your help.

The amount of lies and propaganda fed to Azeris about Armenians is mind blowing.
An Azeri who, according to his Twitter account, lives in Baku made this comment under one of my posts. It exposes the psychopathic hatred Armenians face from Azerbaijan:
“Get pregnant, we'll tear your belly open and take your child. Then you’ll understand how a civilian can look at this incident.”
He reminded me of what my history teacher at middle school (a nationalist Grey Wolf) told us during a class about how Greeks tore open the bellies of pregnant Turkish women, taking the babies out of the wombs and murdered them.
Some other Azeris under another post wrote that Armenians “skin Azeri children alive”.
These people so blatantly lie and appear to believe their own lies. They need these lies to justify their barbarity against Armenians as a payback. How would they otherwise be able to so proudly and joyfully behead and mutilate Armenians?
Armenians pay the price of these hateful lies with their lives.
Azeri children are poisoned with genocidal hatred towards Armenians at school and by their media and grow up with a burning desire to murder Armenians. Something must be done to stop this madness.
Apparently, Azerbaijan doesn’t have the required internal mechanisms to become a normal democracy who has at least a little regard for human rights. Therefore, it’s the world’s responsibility to get Azerbaijan to change for the better and become somewhat civilized through sanctions.

I join my fellow Armenians in demanding the safe release of Ruben Vardanyan and all other Armenians detained in Azerbaijan. As tens of thousands of families are fleeing Nagorno-Karabakh for safe refuge to Armenia, detention is becoming an alarming trend.
Ruben Vardanyan stands out as an outspoken advocate for peace not only in our region but in the world. He is a world known philanthropist, businessman and co-founder of the @auroraprize_ humanitarian initiative which advocates for peacebuilding and provides people around the world with education and healthcare. #RubenVardanyan #FreeArmenianHostages
Armenia, one of the world's oldest and greatest civilizations, was invaded and occupied by Muslim Turks from Central Asia beginning in the 11th century (first by the Seljuk and then the Ottomans).
That part occupied by Turks came to be called western Armenia. In that part of Armenia, Turks took over Armenian lands, turning Armenians and other Christians into second-class subjects. Armenian properties were looted; their churches destroyed and abused. In 1915, Turks conducted the 20th century's first genocide against Armenians. They have eventually erased the entire Armenian-Christian demographic presence and cultural heritage in those same lands where Armenians were once indigenous.
In eastern Armenia, which was under Russian influence and control, the Armenian demography, language and cultural-religious heritage has remained. In 1991, Armenians declared independence from the USSR and established the Republic of Armenia.
Historically, Turkish rule has meant impoverishment, degradation, and the eventual destruction of all non-Muslim peoples. There is no exception to this rule: Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, and Jews in Turkey are all on the verge of extinction. Yazidis have become nearly extinct with only a handful of Yazidi individuals left.
Meanwhile, the president of Azerbaijan now calls Armenia “western Azerbaijan”. Turkey’s president has repeatedly expressed his admiration for the Ottomans who planned the 1915 Genocide.
I've read some posts claiming the government of Armenia is about to make more concessions to Turkey and Azerbaijan regarding southern Armenia. What a fatal, devastating mistake that would be for Armenians! You cannot "normalize" your relations with unrepentant regimes that aim to wipe you out from the map. Especially if you are Armenia, surrounded by two genocidal regimes, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
@clashreport Where is this person and other former captives today? This decades old video proves nothing. Where are their first hand accounts of what actually happened?
For fuck sake. You just know that throughout the last nine months NYT rejected numerous pitches from freelancers wanting to report on the story, people who were actually following events and recognizing the seriousness of the situation.
Now they have the audacity to say this.
The @LemkinInstitute is deeply concerned about the breaking news of the arrest of former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan by Azerbaijan’s State Border Service. Vardanyan was taken by Azerbaijani agents on Wednesday as he attempted to cross the illegal Lachin checkpoint (established by Azerbaijan in April 2023) along with thousands of other citizens of Artsakh fleeing Azerbaijani occupation.
Vardanyan, who has been an outspoken advocate for Artsakh’s right to self-determination, is particularly hated by #Azerbaijan and his detention poses a very high risk to his life and safety.
Russia and the United States, as well as all other world leaders, must demand Vardanyan’s release and safe passage out of Azerbaijan. We remind the world that the detention, killing, and disappearance of elites and/or men is a common act of #genocide.

Farzaliyev Elnur, a war veteran of Azerbaijan, tells how he cut off the heads and ears of Armenians and divided their bodies into two parts.
He also says that he brought the ears cut off from the Armenian bodies to his village and gave them to the Azeri people.
The video was broadcast by the AzeriFreedom YouTube channel. This maniac is treated like a hero by the others who participated in the broadcast.
@SecBlinken “To urge him” 🙄 #SanctionAzerbaijan stop wasting everyone’s time and risking more lives. While you “urge” Aliyev, he arrests @RubenVardanyan_ at Lachin with zero cause. Will you also “urge him” to not torture and kill him?
@PowerUSAID As if the Syunik governor has nothing better to do right now than give you a little tour. How is this helping anyone?? Meanwhile, Azeri authorities have arrested @RubenVardanyan_ at Lachin. You know very well what his fate will likely be. #sanctionaliyev
Zarine is still in a traumatic shock. She lost her two sons—Mikayel, 8, and Nver, 10—in Azerbaijan’s indiscriminate shelling of her village in #NagornoKarabakh by #Azerbaijan. Read her story in our new @BBCWorld article below. #EthnicCleansing
My husband, Ruben Vardanyan, the philanthropist, businessman, and former Minister of State of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) was arrested and detained by the Azerbaijani authorities at the border this morning as he tried to leave with thousands of Armenians.
Ruben has stood with the Arsakh people during the 10-month blockade and has suffered with them in their struggle for survival.
I ask for your prayers and support for my husband's safe release.
