@JDVance Sounds like you should have stayed in the Senate, where you have the power to make laws, if this is your critique. Instead, you're trying to justify your actions using tangentially related, untried law since the existing laws don't support your actions. 🤷🏻♂️
@APSuess151372 @JDVance Administrative hearings in immigration court are not criminal proceedings. Immigration courts simply determine if a person can remain or not remain. They aren't criminal courts. Mr. Vance knows the distinction and is leveraging the fact you don't.
@CorazonGil34733 @daveshow6@JDVance An arraignment is the formal reading of the charges against you. It happens before a trial can occur. So they had an arraignment, but hadn't yet had a trial to refute the charges. If a trial was scheduled, that's due process. Your claim is false.
@Turtlenumber13@JDVance In this country, we require the courts to act as the trier of fact to determine you're a bad guy. Otherwise, the government could simply accuse you of a crime without sufficient evidence & imprison you indefinitely. Mr. Vance should know that since he has a law degree from Yale.
@_Eric_Reinhart I would not respond to this letter with anything other than asking if it is a Civil Investigative Demand or a general inquiry. In both cases, I would refuse to answer improper questions that ask for narrative responses instead of documentation.
@Mommyamygill @Rosie_Canning@CareExp_Culture@ALynnKeller1 The indigenous community has been telling these stories for decades, but only recently folks have started listening. My MSW covered forced removal and Indian "Boarding" Schools, but it isn't standard in other programs; that's the real travesty.
@TaraBautistaPHD I think this can be helpful to coach students to ask for what they need. But I’ve also made the mistake of offering ways I can help that students rejected, which shut down the conversation. I find is a fine balancing act.
@MOHELA I don't think giving me less than 24 hours notice when you said 3 weeks is fair. I checked earlier this month and there was nothing due until October. Got an email yesterday that a payment was due...yesterday. That's super shitty practice. Do better.
@FallonRGoodman I’ve had only one situation where I felt the writing was at a level that made it difficult to adequately evaluate the article…and even then, I made comments on their arguments.
I was so grateful for the morning keynote at @EuSARF2023 this morning with Visanthie Sewpaul and her conversation about what obscures our research. Gave me much to consider.
@motionpictures Interesting that "Red, White, and Royal Blue" has an R rating. A lot of queer cinema is rated R while, straight cinema with analogous content is PG-13. No transparency means you are free to discriminate. I guess it's just objectionable to be queer.
@danielp_reid@AOC Your comment neglects infantilization in patriarchal systems. For example, academia is similarly structured; new faculty are voiceless since tenured folks built a system that favors their needs. “Talent” alone doesn’t retain folks who can affect change in a hostile system.
@chancehaywood@MSWelfareTheft@lmhuber1982@pkcapitol@nckmourt@D_Hawk I would argue this is not analogous to Congress given that states and the fed have different powers. Saying “we’ve tried it” is bad logic because we haven’t tried term limits in Congress. However, it would be nearly impossible to do since it requires an amendment.
@LGBTQHealthHub I would definitely recommend doing both those things. You need to be able to narrow down topics and Twitter can provide some guidance. And I’d definitely want to know if my school/mentor was awful…which you might not get from current doc students.
@mfktherapy When I get stuck, I pull out a Bloom’s Taxonomy of learning handout & start mapping. Sometimes, I find I’m asking too much of the students in one assignment and not enough in another. But also, you know what you expect from students to demonstrate competence; trust that.
