So apparently Jill and I are on a plane to China with Trump, Elon Musk, half the Cabinet, and a collection of CEOs whose combined net worth could probably refinance the moon.
Totally normal day for Gen X.
And I just can’t stop laughing at how the media spent YEARS telling us:
- China hated Elon
- Trump was “finished”
- America was collapsing
- capitalism was dead
- and everybody important was abandoning the U.S.
Meanwhile, here we are somewhere over the Pacific looking like the cast of Succession meets Top Gun: Retirement Plan Edition.
Remember when China sanctioned Marco Rubio back in 2020 and everybody acted like the geopolitical chessboard had permanently shifted?
Now suddenly everybody’s still showing up to the table because — shocking development — nations tend to like:
- money
- technology
- manufacturing
- trade
- AI
- energy
- semiconductors
- and not being economically irrelevant
Who knew.
The best part is the internet meltdown cycle never changes.
Trump:
“America needs stronger trade relationships.”
Media:
“HITLER.”
Elon:
“I make electric cars, rockets, satellites, AI, and robots.”
Internet activists:
“Yeah but we posted an angry hashtag.”
Cool.
I’m sure Beijing is trembling before your TikTok resistance movement.
And flying with this group is exactly what you think it would be.
Trump walks around the cabin narrating reality like it’s an episode of Lifestyles of the Rich and Geopolitical:
“Great flight. Powerful people. Very high IQ. The Chinese are saying they’ve never seen anything like it.”
Elon looks like he hasn’t slept since 2019 and is simultaneously calculating orbital trajectories and wondering if the beverage cart could be automated.
Meanwhile Jill and I are sitting there like two exhausted Gen Xers who survived dial-up internet, chain-smoking restaurants, lawn darts, and drinking from garden hoses… wondering how in the hell we became side characters in the weirdest timeline imaginable.
Honestly, at this point if Trump walked into Beijing blasting “Danger Zone” while Elon live-streamed it from orbit, I wouldn’t even blink.
Because the people who told us America was over are still tweeting from iPhones, driving Teslas, using Starlink during hurricanes, and cashing checks tied to the same capitalist machine they claim to hate.
Gen X translation:
The world’s still running.
The adults are still making deals.
And the internet is still confusing hashtags for accomplishments.
Carry on.
Let me get this straight. Virginia voters created an independent redistricting commission in 2020 specifically to end partisan gerrymandering. Democrats then bypassed their own commission, rushed a constitutional amendment through while over a million people had already voted, and tried to turn a 6-5 seat advantage into 10-1. Obama backed it. Jeffries campaigned for it multiple times. House Majority PAC spent $38 million on it. The Virginia Supreme Court ruled the process violated the state constitution.
Now Jeffries calls it "unprecedented and undemocratic" when a court enforces the constitution against his party. He calls it "voter suppression" when Democrats are stopped from suppressing five Republican districts into one. And he invokes Jim Crow to describe a ruling that upheld the very redistricting reform Virginia voters chose in 2020.
You did not lose your voice. You lost your gerrymander. There is a difference. And the fact that you cannot tell the difference is exactly why you should not be drawing maps.
Here’s the deal: Abigail Spanberger, Don Scott, Louise Lucas and all their friends knowingly violated the Virginia Constitution.
They purposefully violated clear constitutional procedures to deceive voters, capping off their master deception with ballot language meant to confuse everyone.
They strongly argued for the VA Supreme Court to “wait” until after the referendum so their flood of money from national democrats could fund their brazen dishonesty and trick voters to “restore fairness”, and then claim “the will of the people” when the VA Supreme Court would undoubtedly strike down their unconstitutional attempt to disenfranchise millions of Virginians.
It’s a disgusting disregard for Virginians, the Constitution and a flagrant violation of their oath of office.
🚨 LMFAO THIS IS COMEDY GOLD 😂
A Black woman just stepped up and ABSOLUTELY BODIED Tennessee Democrat Rep. Justin Pearson, the same “tough guy” who went viral screaming “MOVE THE FCK BACK! BOY!! You stupid motherfcker!” at State Troopers.
She called his whole act out:
“This DISCOUNT Malcolm X, MLK — he needs to go somewhere and SIT DOWN, frankly! It’s so EMBARRASSING… this does NOT represent the black community! It’s performative. A political stunt. Frankly… we’re not sending our best!”
🤣🤣🤣 Even the home team is calling timeout on this clown!
Barack Obama was on statewide TV in Virginia/DC for 3 weeks in April pushing an unconstitutional gerrymander. Now he expects us to believe he is against gerrymandering? He is be-clowning himself.
I am a senior coordinating producer for the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. I have worked eleven of these. I was backstage at the Washington Hilton when the shots were fired.
The first thing I heard was not the gunfire. It was glass.
A champagne flute hit the floor of the International Ballroom at approximately 9:47 PM. Then a second. Then the sound that I have since been told was a 12-gauge shotgun, which from inside the ballroom sounded like a heavy door slamming in a parking garage. Then the Secret Service moved. They moved the President, the Vice President, the First Lady through the east corridor in under ninety seconds, which is protocol, which is practiced, which is the one part of the evening that worked exactly as it was designed.
Everything else was improvised.
I know this because I ordered the wine. 94 tables. Two bottles per table. 188 bottles of a Willamette Valley pinot noir that the Association selected in February after a tasting committee spent three meetings debating between Oregon and Burgundy. Oregon won. The budget was $14,200. I signed the invoice. I can tell you the vintage. I can tell you the distributor. I can tell you the per-bottle cost because I negotiated it down from $89 to $76.
What I cannot tell you is how 147 of those bottles left the building during an active shooter evacuation.
I can tell you what I saw. A correspondent from a network I will not name picked up two bottles on her way to the east exit. Full bottles. One in each hand. She was wearing heels and she did not spill. A man in a tuxedo tucked one inside his jacket the way you'd shoplift a paperback at an airport bookstore. A woman picked up a bottle, looked at the label, put it back, and took a different one.
She checked the vintage. During an evacuation. That's editorial judgment under pressure.
The theme of the dinner was "A Free Press for a Free People." The banners were still hanging when the evacuation began. I know because I hung them. Twenty-three banners, navy blue, gold serif lettering, $11,400 for the set. They were still hanging when 2,600 guests were directed to the exits by Secret Service agents, one of whom had just taken a shotgun round in his ballistic vest and walked to the ambulance on his own feet.
The agent's vest costs approximately $800. The wine that left the building was worth $11,172 at Association cost. At restaurant markup, roughly $29,000. The guests saved more in wine than the vest that saved the agent.
That's priority.
The video went viral by 10:15 PM. Not the video of the evacuation. Not the Secret Service response. The wine. Three guests in formalwear grabbing bottles off white tablecloths while being told to move toward the exits, while a man with a shotgun stood in the same motor entrance where John Hinckley shot Ronald Reagan 45 years ago.
A woman near the service entrance was crying. She said "I just wanna go home." She was not holding wine. She was holding her phone. She was the only person I saw that night who looked afraid rather than inconvenienced.
That's the distinction. The rest of the ballroom did not look afraid. They looked interrupted. An active shooter at the WHCD is a logistical problem. The dinner was disrupted. The timeline was off. The after-party at the French Ambassador's residence would need to be rescheduled. These are contingency matters. Contingency matters have solutions. Fear is for people who attend events without security details.
I have produced eleven of these dinners. I have managed seating charts that require diplomatic-grade negotiations. I have handled comedians, cabinet secretaries, network anchors, and the editor of a major newspaper who once threatened to leave because his table was behind a column.
I have never, in eleven years, seen a guest leave a $76 bottle on the table during an evacuation. I have also never seen a guest check the label first. Both observations are consistent. The bottle is worth taking. The evacuation is worth surviving. The instinct is to do both simultaneously.
188 bottles placed. 41 recovered. 147 unaccounted for. One agent shot. Zero guests injured. Zero bottles broken.
A free press for a free people. The press is free. The wine was $76 a bottle. They took it anyway.
🚨BREAKING: Democrats just managed to barely win in their attempt to RIG VIRGINIA and gerrymander Republicans out of the state.
Every Republican state needs to redistrict to level the playing field and to make our elections FAIR.
Follow: @BoLoudon
Fox: Why should 90% of Virginia's congressional delegation be Democrats when Kamala Harris only won the state by 5 points?
Kaine: "90% of Virginians are not Democrats. That's true... but we need a congressional delegation that will stand up to Donald Trump's tyranny."
🚨 BREAKING: Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D) just SH0T and KlLLED both his wife and himself, over night at their home
Holy crap, absolutely tragic and devastating.
This guy was TROUBLED.
Nothing says we are fighting for what is best for the people of Virginia like bringing in Newsom, Holder, Warren, & Hollywood elites to try and ram a 10-1 map down our throats that silences millions & splits communities in order to send people to Washington who will vote exactly as these liberals expect. Were AOC and Bernie not available, or will they be added to the line up soon?
No thanks. Virginians will vote NO by April 21st.
