I am worried that misuse, e.g. ransoming a hospital, will not catalyze people because it's not obviously categorically different from previous hacks; and rouge AI will probably not be a legible threat for most people; so idk what we would need anymore to get people to care

okay all fun and jokes aside I've been really worried about AI stuff the past few days, like more so than ever before. I am mostly ignoring it because I have a very busy august and right now would be a bad time to not be able to be "business as usual" but I am very pessimistic

I've mentioned the huggingface incident to people outside of work and nobody cares. nobody is going to care until something really really bad happens. why aren't people throwing insane amount of money into public comms? there must be something i am missing
