A conversation with Ed Catmull, founder of Pixar. I've been making podcasts about Ed for over 8 years. He invited me to his home and told incredible stories from his 60 year career. Ed worked with Steve Jobs longer than anyone else — for more than a quarter century. We talked about what he learned from Steve, the founding of Pixar, building a company at the intersection of art and technology, why getting the team right is the necessary precursor to getting the idea right, and so much more.
Ed is full of hard-earned practical wisdom. Spending time with someone I’ve studied for almost a decade was awesome.
I hope you listen.

I 100% support this relaunch! The configuration of the show as we’ve known it was a result of sponsorship with GE. Prior to GE’s involvement, it was planned as a nostalgic show for a planned neighborhood of Main Street USA. It now sits in Tomorrowland and context matters. It’s long overdue for a show that doesn’t focus on one century--and household appliances--but BETTER LIVING. I’ve long suggested expanding the show's timeline, and fast forwarding to the future; just keep the song--that’s where the heart and soul is— and don’t be beholden to the rotating side scene format in all of the acts. Also, reincarnate the Kaleidophonic Organ in the 1960/70s!

In 1990, Disney released a TV show celebrating Disneyland’s 35th anniversary. It’s the most unhinged thing they’ve ever produced. It was led by famed director John Landis and features the most insane Jungle Cruise ever. Could you imagine this being made today?!? Have you seen it?
