@RoryStewartUK It makes me burn with anger that both of them, and actually, the whole current conservative government talk about ‘levelling up’ without ever even acknowledging the soaring and growing rates of child poverty, particularly in too much of the North. Its the change we need most.
Now #Housing2022 is over I hope delegates are reflecting on what @DanielHewittITV said. The sector needs to face reality. There has been too much triumphalism. No more talk of heroes. I’ve only met one or two in my whole career. No more awards too. Just delivery a decent service.
.@DanielHewittITV: "The lack of humanity and empathy from the sector has been shocking. The treatment from some organisations did not match the distress residents were in"

.@Alison_Inman: "Why should people be scared of Kwajo? Why do so many of our tenants think they've got a better chance of getting a repair done if they message @DanielHewittITV rather than the people they pay every week?"

Outraged to hear EC’s comments at #Housing2022 today. It’s common knowledge that views like those are utterly unthinkable in the sector (and if you do hold them, you’re in the wrong job). Looking forward to a response from @CIHhousing (or to saving myself the membership fee)…

At the APPG for temporary accommodation listening to horror stories of how peoples lives have been destroyed by the poor quality of life sentence of temporary accommodation. We need to change this scandal.
A suggestion for those advising on pandemic policy. Engage with those most impacted- the clinically vulnerable, disadvantaged, frontline workers, minority groups before you recommend flawed policies that worsen existing inequalities & worsen impact on those already struggling.
Karim Mussilhy, who lost his uncle in the Grenfell Tower fire, has just finished giving a painful morning's evidence about the immediate aftermath of the blaze.
At the end of his evidence, he gave this speech. It is worth sharing:
.@DameCarolBlack on dual diagnosis. ‘You wouldn’t tell someone with breast cancer and rheumatoid arthritis that you’re not going to treat the cancer till you’ve dealt with the arthritis. Why do we do that with addiction and mental health?’ #HomelessHealth22 👏👏👏
Really useful piece on the latest round of Rough Sleeping Accommodation Programme funding opportunity. Note that the revenue (support) funding element can continue through to 2024-25.
