I have a Canadian friend who is now an internal medicine doctor. He tried to get into med school in Canada - was rejected not because of grades but because he's a white male - so he went abroad.
He then did his residency in Miami.
He returned to Canada and applied to be a doctor in his home country. Was rejected.
He was just hired by a huge hospital outside of Boston where he'll make triple the salary. His wife said when she gets pregnant, they'll have their baby in the US.
And this is how brain drain happens.
Canada does not nurture/protect its talent. This is why the country is bleeding intelligent/successful people - and they're relocating to America en masse.

Supporters of Alberta independence should sign the petition as soon as possible. A court injunction requested by the First Nations may be issued on April 7 that could halt the collection of signatures.

It is therefore essential that the required 177,000 signatures be gathered before that date.

Once again: where are Canada’s major projects?

Where is the investment, growth and jobs?

It’s been a year and the federal govt still hasn’t changed the anti-project tax rates, regulations and policies killing manufacturing and investment.

- Alberta is growing. Employment is up again leading the nation. But it was hard. We cut corp taxes from 12 to 8 and cut red tape for years. Now we’re adding the majority of private sector jobs in the nation and attracting global data centres and advanced materials. And we generate more govt revenue from the 8pc rate than we ever did at 12 due to greater economic activity; just like we said it would.

But across Canada red tape and high taxes kill project investment and manufacturing and jobs and generates the lowest productivity in the G7.

So what is the federal govt doing about it?

It’s insane but they are keeping the taxes and regs in place and spending more in debt as the economy declines. This year the feds under PM carney will spend $78 billion we don’t have. They will also lose another $50 billion to interest. Faced with dying economy from their tax and regulation they’re using gimmicks like offering $14bn for groceries - creating more govt dependency using money we don’t have to maintain political popularity.

What makes all of this so irresponsible and selfish is that our kids have to pay all of this back, with interest.

And the only way they can hope to do that is with a vibrant private sector economy that investors believe in enough to launch projects and create jobs.

But this same debt addicted and popularity obsessed govt won’t change their anti energy green rules and the incompetence and red tape that prevents Canada from building the infrastructure and assets to be a global trading partner with Europe and Asia.

They say there’s no business case. Because they kill the business case with policies no other nation would dream of imposing on its most valuable assets.

This 1-2 punch of over-spending and over-regulation has been impoverishing Canada for a decade.

But now we are facing three big hurdles
- possible credit downgrade
- growing national poverty
- CUSMA negotiations

Canada has a limited horizon left to cut taxes, reverse a decade of anti-energy/mining/manufacturing policies, trim regulations and debt and reduce the expensive and bloated bureaucracy.

The money and the jobs are waiting.

But the govt lacks urgency. Federal and provincial debt is now over 100pc of national GDP. Our dollar is at 70 cents. This is becoming so reckless. Our kids have to pay for this. It’s time to start doing the right thing.

Enough with the trips and the second tier deals. Renew Canada. Cut the regs and debt and let major projects and job and economic growth start to happen.

I asked our Chief Economic Planner to run the models we used to develop the VALUE OF FREEDOM to answer two questions.

The questions were

1. Could a free and independent Alberta afford to completely eliminate federal income tax on Day 1 of Independence?

2. Could a free and independent Alberta afford to double CPP and OAS payments to Alberta Seniors resident in Alberta at least 12 months prior to the independence referendum ?

The answer to both of those questions run through our VALUE OF FREEDOM economic model, maintaining all planned expenditures in that model was a resounding

YES!

ONE referendum campaign slogan can now be :

VOTE FOR ALBERTA INDEPENDENCE AND FREEDOM.

ELIMINATE FEDERAL INCOME TAX PAYMENT AND DOUBLE SENIORS CPP AND OAS PAYMENTS ON DAY ONE.

I’m still waiting to hear from any federalist as to how our lives will be better the day after the “Forever Canadians” get everyone to vote NO to freedom and independence.
