HP is not the birthplace of Silicon Valley.

Yet that is our common belief. There is a plaque in front of the garage where HP started that claims to be Silicon Valley’s birthplace. That just isn’t true. HP would never have happened without Stanford University and the University wouldn’t have happened without the railroad.

How do we get the historical record to be more accurate?

And if the historical record is wrong about big things, like that, how many errors are there like this? Thousands.

The Chinese built the railroad that gave Leland Stanford his wealth.

Stanford didn’t invite them to the completion party.

The railroad, and especially the tunnels the Chinese dug in the Sierras, are the true birthplace of Silicon Valley.

That bias is still in our AI today.

It bugs me that it isn’t correct.

It won’t be fixed anytime soon. Unfortunately.

But until it is you can’t tell me there isn’t bias encoded into the LLM that improperly helps some people and hurts others.
