PhD student @hrmcintosh doing #pollinators observations in fall raspberry plots for her color mulch study at @UWMadisonCALS West Madison Research Station.
Completely unrelated to my current work, but here's a new publication I contributed to during undergrad working with #Mimulus. @speci8_mate helped me develop my skills as a scientist & communicator (I still think my poster should've won 1st prize!)
The last paper from my postdoc with @matt_streisfeld is now on bioarxiv, with key contributions from @madeechase and @hrmcintosh! Features a window-based geographic cline analysis and QTL for divergent floral traits.

The first paper from my grad research was just published! Plastic mulches reduce #SWD adults by 52% & larvae by 72% in #raspberry in the Upper Midwest ๐ชฐ๐๐ซโ ๏ธ

@MNFruitLady@WIFruitNews It depends on the color! Soil temps won't heat up as much with the white and metallic mulch, so that could potentially work in high tunnels. Sorry for my late reply, been in the field!
Maria has been a farm worker for 17 years in Madera CA. She wants the Farm Work Modernization act to pass because she came to this country to give her family a better future and is tired of being afraid of being separated from her children. #WeAreHome#WeFeedYou
Salvador shares a picture of the citrus tree he just netted in Madera CA. The trees are netted to protect them from being pollinated by bees to keep the fruit seedless. These oranges fetch a premium price but Salvador is paid the same wage for carrying the heavy nets. #WeFeedYou
My MS research with @WI_fruit_ento found that plastic mulches reduce spotted-wing drosophila adult & larval populations in fall-bearing raspberries. Check out this article I wrote for an update on the project:

My lab is hiring a post-doc to work on #chemicalecology of #pests in #Wisconsin fruit crops starting in June. Ento folks, please RT! DM me or @WI_fruit_ento w/ questions & click the link for details on how to apply.
Looking for a #postdoc w/ expertise in #chemicalecology to work on mass trapping of #socialwasps in #vineyards & study aggregation of red-headed flea beetle in #cranberry. We encourage people w/ diverse experiences & backgrounds to apply.

Luna says โthank you!โ for the delicious cricket-based dog biscuits @jiminysforpets and @AgEntoGirl! We enjoyed participating in your photo contest during @BlackInEnto Week.
I have a paid summer internship for an MSU undergrad who wants to work with extension and community gardens. No applicants yet! Living in Detroit metro better but all virtual opportunity is possible.
Know any interested students or places to promote? @msuberrybugs @msuerinhill
These are the hands that work 9 hours day.
These are the hands that provide a nation fruits & vegetables.
These are the hands that pray for farm workers everywhere.
These are the hands that feed us.

Speaker fees may be set by the agency, but this institution gets to decide final fees.
If you are willing to pay one $12,500+ dollars KNOWING you are only paying the other $7,500, why not offer higher compensation to the other to demonstrate your commitment to equality?
Once again, @UWMadison demonstrates how little they value the work of BIPOC folx.
Paying a white keynote speaker nearly DOUBLE what they paid a black woman for the same thing is a perfect representation of just how fake their โequity and diversityโ initiatives are.
#EntSoc20 attendees, here's my talk about our 2 year study showing that plastic mulches reduce spotted-wing drosophila in #raspberry. I'm very excited about the results & am happy to answer questions.

Such a pleasant surprise to wake up to this morning! Thanks so much @zachportman. Looking forward to watching some great talks at #EntSoc2020 over the next few days
