I was interviewed in this article on monarchs in @PopSci and our paper is referenced! It feels really special to be quoted in a magazine I read as a little kid.
TLDR: you should plant native milkweed and flowers to help monarchs 🌱🌼🦋
Picked up these native plants today from @DustinDemmer! Very excited to put all these species in the ground but I think I’m most enthralled with the hoary puccoon, one of which is already flowering. Couldn’t resist woodland phlox and New Jersey tea. Bonus: Indian paintbrush! ☺️🌱
🦋 First butterfly of the season today in Southern Wisconsin! An eastern comma. Bonus pink-spotted lady beetle from yesterday. Pretty dang early to be seeing these critters out and about!
Our paper on Delias evolution and biogeography is out! Island-hopping helped spur diversification in this genus of ~250 species. Thanks to 22 co-authors from 12 countries. Download freely here:

@nataliealund@USNavy Thanks for your article, but I found an error. You stated that “In late August 2021, five sailors died after a MH-60R crashed in the same waters due to a mechanical failure” but this previous crash was in an MH-60S, a different helicopter model. Can you please correct?
@freschly_snipes Kinda wish more people knew this was a thing 😔 it changed my world when I found out graduate students can get paid to go to grad school
Hi twitter community, heads up, I’m now on Threads! Follow for more 🦋BUTTERFLY SCIENCE🦋 on there. Not leaving this bird app entirely quite yet, but excited for the potential that Threads holds. https://t.co/gypzlrPj7h
A very interesting (transitional?) dark morph tiger swallowtail found in our vegetable tunnels today. I’ve seen dark morph tigers before but never one quite like this!
@Hanliconius It’s been a somewhat “normal” spring for SW Wisconsin. We had some warm temps in April followed by cold-ish, and it started heating up a couple of weeks ago.
