In 2026 alone, 911 health workers and patients have lost their lives to attacks on health care across 19 countries and territories. And nearly 1486 others have suffered injuries.
Often health workers put their duty of care above their own safety. Their loss leaves behind a grieving family, community, and a fragile health system.
Today is World Humanitarian Day.
We repeat.
HEALTH IS NEVER A TARGET.
Stop attacks on health care.

Today, I was joined by the Executive Director of @NSPHCDA, Dr. Junaidu Inuwa, for the second day of our Co-Design Meeting on Engaging Men and Boys in Family Planning with our partners @PathfinderInt
In Niger State, we recognise that reproductive health decisions are not made in isolation; they involve husbands, fathers, community leaders, and young men. If we are to improve maternal and child health outcomes, we must bring men into the conversation as partners, not bystanders.
This two-day engagement in Abuja was about more than dialogue, it was about action. Together with stakeholders from Niger and Nasarawa States, we reviewed barriers, identified local solutions, and developed a practical, evidence-informed model that is owned by our communities and aligned with the New Niger Health Agenda.
Under the leadership of His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago (@HonBago), we are committed to people-centred healthcare. This means ensuring that family planning services are accessible, informed, and supported by all—men and women alike.
I commend @PathfinderIntl for their continued partnership with Niger State. Our collaboration is a testament to what we can achieve when we transform evidence into sustainable health interventions.
The road ahead is to engage men, empower families, and strengthen our health system from the grassroots up. Together, we will deliver better outcomes for every mother, newborn, and family in Niger State.

Today marked a significant milestone in our journey to strengthen healthcare delivery in Niger State. As His Royal Highness, Alh. (Dr) Yahaya Abubakar CFR the Etsu Nupe, officially unveiled hospital equipment, drugs, and consumables worth over ₦100 million at the Etsu Umaru Sanda Ndayako General Hospital, Bida.
This vital intervention, made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Federal Government and Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago (@HonBago)'s administration, is about more than just equipment. It’s about strengthening Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) to save the lives of our mothers and newborns.
While the financial worth is substantial, the true value lies in the lives to be saved and the quality of care that will be delivered. This investment ensures our healthcare workers have the tools they need to respond to emergencies effectively.
I thank His Royal Highness, the Etsu Nupe, for his unwavering support, and all our dedicated health workers and partners. The message is clear, under the New Niger Health Agenda, we are committed to better-equipped hospitals, empowered staff, and stronger emergency care for every citizen.

Yesterday marked a new dawn for healthcare in Niger State.
Under the visionary leadership of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago (@HonBago), we have officially commissioned the remodeled wing at Minna General Hospital—upgraded from 200 to 368-bed capacity, with plans already underway to hit 500 beds in the next phase.
But that’s not all:
✅ 2,000 high-quality hospital beds distributed across the state
✅ 40+ wheelchairs deployed
✅ Malaria commodities worth ~₦2.5 billion procured
This is not just infrastructure, it is a bold investment in accessible, patient-centered care under the New Niger Health Agenda.
From a Railway Staff Medical Centre in 1926 to the largest secondary health institution in the state. This century-old facility is now being transformed into a modern medical hub with:
· State-of-the-art diagnostic tools
· Upgraded operating theatres
· Expanded specialist services
· Improved staff accommodation
I commend His Excellency for his unprecedented commitment to building a health system that serves both present and future generations. And I thank Her Excellency, (@fatimabago_) the First Lady, for her unwavering support for women, children, and vulnerable groups.
Quality healthcare is not a privilege, it is a right. And we are determined to deliver it to every resident of Niger State.

Yesterday, His Excellency Farmer (Dr.) Mohammed Umaru Bago(@HonBago), our visionary Governor, was ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, to flag off the Niger State Free Eye Care Camp—a bold step toward eliminating avoidable blindness under the New Niger Agenda.
In partnership with Qatar Charity-Nigeria (@qcharity) & Middle East Clinic, Kano, we screened over 2,300 persons, treated 2,000+, provided 700+ prescription glasses, and scheduled 380+ cataract patients for free sight-restoring surgeries.
Cataract robs people of sight, dignity, and productivity. Restoring vision gives all of that back, and this administration remains fully committed.
We also presented reflective white walking sticks to members of the blind community and provided food support to over 200 post-surgery patients—because care must be holistic.
I thank our healthcare teams, partners, volunteers, and every stakeholder who made this impactful intervention possible.
Together, we are delivering accessible, equitable healthcare and restoring hope to the people of Niger State.

Health is more than hospitals and medicine. It shapes how people live, learn, and thrive.
Too many communities still lack access to quality care. Stronger, inclusive health systems can change that.
At HSTP, the focus is simple: better systems, better outcomes, better lives.
Niger State shines at the 2nd PHC Congress in Nairobi!
Represented by Dr. Murtala Bagana and Dr. Junaidu Inuwa, the state is sharing health reforms, community-focused innovations, and lessons with global leaders, building partnerships and advancing Universal Health Coverage.
Strong healthcare doesnt happen by chance. It happens when systems are coordinated, data informs decisions, and accountability is built into every process.
HSTP works behind the scenes to ensure health facilities operate efficiently, resources are used effectively, and communities receive the care they need. Sustainable impact comes from structure, discipline, and strong systems, not luck.
Behind each birth is a woman who deserves quality care, dignity, and support. At HSTP, we work to strengthen the systems that protect mothers and newborns, from improving healthcare processes to supporting the people and structures that make safe deliveries possible.
Yesterday, March 2nd, 2026, HE Governor @HonBago commissioned a major upgrade at IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna.
New facilities include:
. 60-bed Porta Cabin ward
. Renovated Accident & Emergency Unit
. Modern ICU
. Consolidated Diagnostic Centre (Mammography, MRI, CT Scan…
A new month to improve coordination, strengthen delivery, and support healthier communities.
May March bring wisdom in planning, excellence in service, and measurable improvements across our health systems.
We move forward with focus.
