The Danish Army is finally again getting conscription-based units like the re-established 2nd Mechanised Infantry Company, 2nd Armoured Infantry Btn, Jutland Dragoon Regiment.
Like pre-2004 it will have a core of contract officers & NCOs. It will be equipped with Patria 6x6 APCs

Rækkevidde var tænkt som skibets rækkevidde hvor de nuværende danske fregatter har 9.000nm mod for eksempel FDI der har 5.000nm.

@stakmaskin @CamberNorth @jhafsegerstad Problemet med FDI og de andre kandidater er at de ikke opfylder de danske specifikationskrav hvilket den nye 140 muligvis gør. Man efterspørger reelt en stor områdeluftforsvarsfregat med lang rækkevidde (der ikke har været på markedet på det seneste).

“Røven af 4. Division” er i dag et udtryk for noget dårligt, men oprindeligt betød det at de Prøjsisk-Østrigske styrker i 1864 kun så bagenden af Generalløjtnant Hegermann-Lindencrones 4. Division, der trak sig tilbage gennem Jylland mens den holdt kontakt med fjenden.

First of all IH will remain in this role for 5-10+ years until replaced.

Secondly, they can be shooters (as also discussed during the BMD role discussion now dropped) so the role is not dependent on the mk41 or the SM-2s.

@xaviervav Yes, they prefer something just like the Iver Huitfeldt frigates which were also built with imported hull sections, so not a FDI in IKEA version ;-)

New Danish frigates should be built in Denmark according to an Op-ed by Danske Maritime.

Strong industrial & political interests are favouring newbuildings at Danish shipyards, which seems to be ignored by eg Babcock, Naval Group and international media.

@xaviervav The challenge with this model is there is actually little interest in building the hulls in Denmark (the hulls for the existing frigates were produced in sections in Estonia and Lithuania and the ones for the Knud Rasmussen OPVs in Poland as an example).

@AlexLuck9 @CorporalFrisk It is indeed some stakeholders doing their work, but no one should undetestimate the unions and industry associations, especially since there is no direct urgency in the replacement programme unlike what some politicians are trying to portray.
