We remain hopeful that by 9 October the Government of J&K will honour its written assurance and fulfil its commitment to the long-pending stipend hike for MBBS & BDS medical interns.

For months, interns have been raising this legitimate demand through peaceful and democratic means. We sincerely hope that the Government will take the necessary steps within the committed timeline and that the long-awaited stipend enhancement will finally be implemented.

However, if due to any unforeseen circumstances the Government fails to honour its written assurance by 9 October, then all J&K medical interns will resume their indefinite hunger strike from 10 October.

We do not want confrontation. We want a written order, implementation and justice for medical interns who are working day and night in our hospitals and serving patients.

9 October is the deadline.
10 October will be the next step, if the assurance is not fulfilled.

We remain hopeful that the Government will keep its word and that there will be no need to resume the strike

On 8 September 2026,the Government of J&K recorded its decision that the matter of enhancement of medical interns’ stipend would be finalised within 30 days, based on the recommendations of the Stipend Enhancement Committee.

Today, 2 October, only 6 days remain until the 30-day period ends.
We respectfully request the concerned authorities to honour the written assurance and issue the necessary order within the committed timeline.

21 days since the written assurance. Still no Government Order.

On 8 September, MBBS & BDS interns were given a written assurance that the stipend issue would be resolved within 30 days, following which we suspended our agitation and returned to patient care.
Today 21 days are gone and we are still waiting for the order.

Meanwhile, bills are being introduced to revise the salaries and allowances of MLAs and Ministers.
For politicians, bills move. For healthcare workers, promises move. But the stipend order remains stuck.

We work day and night serving patients. We are not asking for charity. We are asking the Government to honour its own written commitment.
30 days means 30 days—not another endless wait.

PRESS STATEMENT
I, Dr. Mohammad Akib Javid, Joint Secretary, AIMSA and Interns’ Representative, Jammu & Kashmir, would like to place on record the concerns of MBBS and BDS interns regarding the pending stipend revision.
On 8 September 2026, following our prolonged peaceful protest and hunger strike, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir gave us a written assurance that the stipend matter would be finalised within 30 days on the basis of the recommendations of the Stipend Enhancement Committee. In view of this assurance, we suspended our agitation and immediately resumed our hospital duties in the larger interest of patient care.
Today, 15 days have passed.
We are now at Day 15 — 15 days gone, 15 days remaining.
We have respected the assurance given to us. We have returned to our duties, continued attending patients and fulfilled our responsibilities as medical interns.
However, we are still awaiting the final notification and implementation of the promised stipend revision.
Our demand has always been clear: revision of the existing stipend of around ₹12,300 per month to ₹30,000 per month, keeping in view the workload, responsibilities and nature of duties performed by interns.
I want to make one thing absolutely clear:
Our silence after 8 September should not be mistaken for forgetfulness.
We have not forgotten our demand.
We are watching.
We are waiting.
And we are counting every single day.
We gave the Government the time it requested because we chose to trust the written commitment. We do not want another confrontation. We do not want hospital services to be disrupted. We want the matter to be resolved through the administrative process and within the timeline committed to us.
Therefore, I respectfully appeal to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Sahib and the Hon’ble Minister for Health & Medical Education, Ms. Sakina Masood Itoo, to kindly ensure that this matter is taken up on priority and the commitment made to the interns is honoured within the stipulated 30 days.
Fifteen days have passed. Fifteen days remain.
We sincerely hope that the Government will use this remaining period to bring the matter to its logical conclusion and issue the necessary notification.
But let there be no misunderstanding: our demand remains firmly on the table.
If the commitment is not fulfilled within the assured timeline, the interns will collectively decide their next course of peaceful and democratic action.
We remain hopeful.
We remain united.
And we remain committed to our legitimate demand.
Day 15. The countdown continues.

As a representative of J&K interns & Joint Secretary, AIMSA, I seek clarification on the latest communication issued by the Finance Department dated 15.09.2026.

The communication asks the Health & Medical Education Department to undertake a comprehensive review of the existing fee structure and its alignment with other States/UTs. However, similar reviews/assessments have already been undertaken in the past in connection with this matter.

If another review is administratively necessary, we have no objection but why restart the process instead of taking forward the work already completed? More importantly, such a process must not become a reason for further delay in the long-pending stipend revision.

The Health & Medical Education Department has given us a 30-day timeline. Today is Day 9 — only 21 days remain.

We respectfully urge the concerned authorities to expedite all necessary formalities and ensure implementation within the committed timeline.

We are following the process closely, counting every day, and remain serious about this commitment.
