They put up a stooge called Wais Islam to try & split the Muslim vote. To the credit of the local community he was identified as such & lost his deposit! New: Andy Burnham has backed the EHRC guidance on single-sex spaces and said the Supreme Court ruling on biological sex must be implemented.

Burnham told journalists at his campaign launch in Makerfield that his views had changed since previous comments made in 2022, and he said: "I think the time has come to take the Supreme Court ruling and the guidance and implement it. But to do it in a way, obviously, that protects those spaces, but does not marginalise already marginalised communities."

He said: "Let's implement the guidance, but to do it in the fairest and most compassionate way possible."

"We've got to move into the next phase and not constantly re-running the arguments. I think Britain has done this too much in recent times, you know, with Brexit and other things. We've got to stop arguing with each other."

Henderson was the Lead Commissioner overseeing the EHRC's investigation into the Corbyn-era Labour Party. That report was filled with the most basic, head-slapping factual errors, never mind it's dubious legal interpretations.

One example: the Labour Party was
found collectively guilty of harassment for Facebook comments made by a Councillor Pam Bromley, because she was an "agent" of the Party. Bromley - with good reason - has vehemently denied her comments were antisemitic. But most importantly she wasn't an agent at the time the comments were made, because she had been suspended. The report noted the date of her suspension, the dates of her comments, but didn't put two and two together. To reiterate: the Party was found guilty because of the conduct of an agent of the Party, WHO WASN'T AN AGENT OF THE PARTY. Just astonishingly poor, slapdash stuff.

I interviewed Henderson in 2020 following that report. I was not impressed.

If this was South Africa, where the general public can show locus standi in legal reviews, me and my colleagues would have challenged the EHRC's findings and overturned it - just as we did with the Seriti Commission in South Africa, creating ground-breaking Commonwealth jurisprudence.

This attempt at deflection and minimising won't work. The line is to frame Ben Gvir as a fringe figure but he remains a member of the Government. But consider this. Also present , endorsing the open torture of activists , was Miri Regev, Transport Minister. She is a Senior member of Likud, previously highly placed on its national list at elections and mentioned as a potential successor to Netanyahu. The Problem for @_LFI and other allies of Israel is not the torture of activists but that it is done openly and is therefore appalling PR. It is the naked face of the Israeli regime being exposed. Regev , as I say a senior Likud figure, was one of those who supported the Israeli Prison guards who were filmed sexually abusing a Palestinian prisoner. The Israeli political mainstream has no problem with the abuse and torture of Palestininian prisoners. They, and their allies like @_LFI, have a concern when western activists are openly tortured so the brutality of the regime is exposed to the world.

Our daughter, Rachel Corrie, was killed in 2003 in Gaza, while trying to protect a Palestinian home facing illegal destruction by the Israeli military. She was 23 years old. The massive, armored Caterpillar D-9 bulldozer that crushed her was operated by two Israeli soldiers and manufactured in the United States. It was the same type of militarized bulldozer that US presidents from George W. Bush through to Donald Trump have delivered to Israel.
Today, as the destruction of Palestinian homes has only become more commonplace, not to mention the horror of Israel’s genocide, Senator Bernie Sanders will force a vote in the Senate to try to end this cycle of death by banning the transfer of D-9 bulldozers to Israel. We hope he will not take this stand alone.
No policy can bring back those taken from us by these actions—children and other loved ones. But the Senate now has an opportunity to honor the memories of our daughter, other Americans, and thousands of Palestinian civilians killed, and to show that their deaths, and all the destruction, will no longer be condoned and funded. We hope those elected to represent us, the American people, understand the message that voting to block these D-9 bulldozers will send. This will not be a symbolic gesture, but a concrete step toward the protection of human life.
