Whenever I talk about Chinese technology, there are no shortages of comments claiming that China stole technology from the U.S.

Well, well, well…
The Chinese stole over 500 IPs from the USSR, but not only from them. The Soviets stole from the West, and the West stole a lot as well.

It seems that Chinese and Russian planes copy American designs. In fact, these people should study Adolf Busemann. He was the inventor of the Delta design that has accompanied American aviation to this day. Obviously, no one paid anything for that.

Busemann was just another German scientist among the 1,500 taken to the U.S. after Germany's invasion, in what became known as Operation Paperclip: the largest theft of industrial property in history, where decades of German research were stolen.

To begin with, I’ll tell you that both the first American ballistic missile and key components of the lunar program, along with nuclear reactor technologies, submarine improvements, and a series of other technologies, were stolen from the Germans without any compensation after the war.

The Soviets did the same, with the operation known as Osoaviakhim, stealing German secrets without any payment for IP. The KGB had a robust department for steal IP. For the URSS didn’t exist intelectual propriety.

The U.S. also did the same in the 1990s through operations to benefit Boeing against the AirBus, shading the French, and Europeans did the same against anyone during centuries.

In the 1960s, Brazilian researchers, after nearly 20 years of work, isolated the active compound of Captopril. An American company stole the research, produced the first hypertension medication, and made billions.

150 years ago, Brazil had two of the ten richest cities in the world, producing rubber. Exporting seeds or planting those trees outside the country was prohibited. Then, as expected, some European entrepreneurs stole the seeds and planted them in Asia, where the climate was similar.

A similar situation happened with many African, Asian, Canadian, and Australian countries and anyone with property that could be stolen. Countries like India lost a lot in this process. And these countries also stolen from the native populations.

Do you know why? That was the game. That’s how things worked at this level. And today Each country must have its intelligence services and laws prepared to prevent these situations, which will always occur among allies or not.

So, do we live in a world where stealing is the norm?
In military and industrial fields constantly, but Today there are more efficient mechanisms than those in the past.

Another example: after the fall of the Soviet Union, large numbers of engineers migrated to Israel, hired by tech companies across various sectors, including aerospace. They not only brought Soviet secrets but also reproduced radars, guidance systems, missiles, and other technologies on Israeli soil. Today, this would be considered IP theft, but back then, such legislation didn't exist.
