@martinfasani Yea, unless you know the seller/manufacturer well, don’t buy cloned modules from random places like this. Always get it from LCSC or mouser or official resellers. 😅
@martinfasani Personally as a Shenzhen born and raised guy I only trust NOR flash from GigaDevice, Winbond plus some newer MXIC models. All other brands can be dodgy. I’ve heard people using less-common brands flash chip ended up with high failure rate in mass production due to bad blocks.
@martinfasani Price I’ve got from Taobao is ¥13.5 and ¥15.1, vs. the official Espressif N16R8 modules are around ¥20-25. I’d say these N16R8 modules are good enough for PoC. But I wouldn’t recommend for mass production.
@beriberikix@timonsku@EspressifSystem I’ve heard from my sources in Shenzhen that the next batch of ESP32-P4 dev boards and sample chips are still beta silicon, which may be dispatched next one month or two. I don’t think they will produce final/stable silicon that soon…
@patrick_riscv May I ask what's the sleep mode and the current be like? I mean including some common modes like shutdown mode (with only RTC/Timer + LSE running) and stop mode (with RTC/Timer + LSE + full RAM retention)?
Just tested ESP32-S3FN8 works fine with APS12808L with no modification needed for ESP-IDF. So yes, those ESP32-S3 NxR8 modules/chips are NOT the largest PSRAM option. We can choose to DIY now.
@whitequark This is why I started hating rust… Too many idiots like this writing incompetent libraries, with APIs that are definitely unfriendly for normal human beings.
@will_whang I’d see CM5 split out a PCI-E 2.0 (or 3.0?) x4 and a PCI-E 2.0 x1. That will be quite useful for making something IO intensive, like NAS, firewall or router.
@robertlipe Fully agree, and same for AllWinner D1s/V3s/F1C200. They are all around US$3-6, same-ish as ESP32S3, but SDK is crap or open source community is too small, while also lacking some features like light/deep sleep.
